Game Thread: Twins @ Boston 5:05 PM 3/22/2023 (Exhibition Game)

The exhibition game is on my cable thru NESN, so I'll start a game thread. Interesting lineup, with only Contreras having no real shot of making the team out of Spring Training. Ryan starts for the Twins.

On replay, it looked like it was just above the elbow. Probably will leave a mark, but I’d guess he’ll be fine.

Taylor goes full after being down 0-2 and raps a double off the FL green monster. Really good AB for MAT. 4-0 Twins.

Ryan with a hitless bottom of the first, he walked Turner but retired the others pretty effectively.

Miranda in the lineup as the first baseman. He does look a little trimmer this year. We now have just a week and a day to go and Miranda hasn't played an inning at third base.

Castro played a slow chopper awkwardly on what went for a single. Castro has the least experience at third of the positions he's played.

Gotta say , Having Taylor makes me feel better than seeing Celestino ,  And with Byron Brittle as D.h. even more so !!

Old friend Rob Refsnyder looks like he's going to win a backup outfield spot for the RSox, according to the NESN broadcasters.

He's been above average on offense in his career once and that was six years ago. He's in the major leagues because he's a plus defender in a defensive position high on the spectrum.

I like Gilbert , just think he could use a healthy dose in the Minors , when ready, Hey how do i get NESN ??

Castro plunked for the second straight time. Looked like it went right off the pad they wear so they don't foul the ball off their foot.

Taylor grounds into a 1-2-3 DP, so the first time he cleared the sacks with a double and his second try, he let the pitcher escape.

I have DirecTV and it's part of the package. It's blacked out for Twins games when the Twins are on Bally, so I seldom watch it.

Farmer and Miranda combine for a nice defensive play on a chopper towards the middle. Ryan 1-2-3 in the third. They haven't hit many balls hard through 3.

Gallo got a solid single in his third AB.

Larnach 3-3. Farmer 2-run bomb. 8-0.

Red Sox announcers with very little knowledge of the Twins. One of them said that batting champion Luis Arraez was returning to Minnesota. They called Larnach "Kepler". I guess Kepler was in the original starting lineup, but scratched late due to his tight hip.

Fourth inning for Ryan, just about all fastballs, fanned the side.

The wind is blowing out to left and Jet Blue has the same dimensions as Fenway. Doesn't take a moon shot to get out. Miranda's homer particularly didn't look that impressive off the bat.

Ryan through four, less than 50 pitches.

Sox second hit is a pop fly that fell between Gallo and Solano. Ryan at about sixty pitches through five and they haven't hit more than one or two balls hard.

Does anyone else get NESN? If not keep commenting on one I see.
