Pitchers we didn't get

So if anyone else wants to track some pitchers we didn't get, I'm certainly interested. My top two "name" pitchers were Ervin Santana and Ryan Dempster. Any word on them?

 

Dempster was as much a fantasy as Greinke. No chance he was coming here.

 

And you would have advocated topping the Royals offer to bring in one year of Santana?

I was on board for acquiring Saunders or a Dodger lefthander. Saunders has done well. I was underwhelmed by the three guys the Twins ended up adding, but perhaps they were good purchases.

I didn't comment on Santana or Dempster because I thought the point of this thread was just to post numbers. But since others are doing it...

 

Dempster's true cost is in years, not dollars this year. As another poster said, he wasn't much of an option.

 

I'm not sure we could have matched the Angels' offer for Santana. The closest thing we have to what the Royals gave up is Tonkin. I certainly would not have traded Tonkin for one year of Santana. We're going to need him when we have the horses to contend.
