I think he’ll be fine in the long run. He had no command today, which is not normal for Randy.

Randy threw 32 of his 52 pitches for strikes, which is 61.5%.  For his career, he's thrown 764 of his 1,178 pitches for strikes, which is 64.5%.  Not really that far off, and if the margin of error for Dobnak is 3 balls per 100, that $9M will be a (very minor) waste.

That's a $1.50 too much!

If a friend told me he bought 100 shares of a questionable stock for 1.50 a share and told me if all goes well it could get maybe to 3.00 a share...would I think he made a dumb move? No. I would just wonder why he bothered. And that’s how I feel about the Dobnak deal.

Control /=/ Command

Control /=/ Command

Sure, but there's no metric for command.  We can only assume for the most part where he wanted pitches to end up.  Maybe he only had control, but not command today.  Or maybe he did have command, but the Tigers just put some good swings on the ball.  Or maybe he did have command, but his stuff isn't good enough anymore now that there's a fairly substantial book on him, and these types of outings will be more common.

Because he signed for about a buck-fifty.

I don't care much about the extension as long as it doesn't give him more leash than he deserves, and I assume it won't.

Because guys like Scott Diamond, and Cole De Vries and Les Straker got no leash and for good reason.

And kudos to Dobnak gettin the rare 3 inning save, and finding a way to get a bit more work in.

I wonder how many saves in history have involved giving up a grand salami.

Actually that is an interesting question.

I'd like to say Dobnak must be in rather rarified statistical atmosphere, but as not every dimension is good, perhaps it is more of a saddle point.

I imagine the bulk of them are multi-inning saves. Save situations being what they are, an inning or less save, the grand slam inherently uses up your margin for error, as it were.

i’m confused. which team is which?

Baddoo homered to left (374 feet), Schoop scored, Ramos scored and Goodrum scored.

Twins were facing a parallel universe Twins team. Sponsored by White Castle, i believe.
