Phil Miller: Pelfrey pitched poorly, but felt good

Phil Miller gives some notes from today's 8-5 win. Pitcher Mike Pelfrey was chased before his two innings were complete, but felt good about most of the outing.

Pelfrey used all four of his pitches, he said, and kept everything close to the strike zone. He allowed five hits and three runs but didn't walk a batter. His fastball was mostly 86-88 mph but should gradually increase to the mid-90s by the beginning of the season, he said.

He's been the "feel good" story of camp so far. I'll feel good when his velocity picks up quite a bit...

After reading the article, I really like Pelfrey's humble but confident attitude. It seems to me that if he can shake off the rust and throw in the mid-90's, he can be a solid starter. He might also be a good mentor for some of the younger pitchers.
