The Tigers and Yankees both needed five games (and usage of their #1 pitchers) to reach the ALCS. Here is the schedule:

Game 1 - Saturday - Tigers @ Yankees - Doug Fister vs Andy Pettitte

Game 2 - Sunday - Tigers @ Yankees - Anibal Sanchez vs Hiroki Kuroda

Game 3 - Tuesday - Yankees @ Tigers - CC Sabathia vs Justin Verlander

Game 4 - Wednesday - Yankees @ Tigers - Phil Hughes vs Max Scherzer

Game 5 - Thursday - Yankees @ Tigers - Andy Pettitte vs Doug Fister (if necessary)

Game 6 - Saturday - Tigers @ Yankees - Anibal Sanchez vs Hiroki Kuroda (if necessary)

Game 7 - Sunday - Tigers @ Yankees - Justin Verlander vs CC Sabathia (if necessary... and what a Game 7 matchup that would be!!!)

What are your thoughts and predictions?

Tigers in six games...

My biggest fear for this is that the Yankees have a way of getting umpires to squeeze opposing pitchers if tthey are not established control specialists. Also the Yankees seem to be able to force pitchers to throw a larger number of pitches and will get into the Tigers bullpen. This may not be pretty.

I feel the Yankees will win in 5 or 6.

I've got the Bombers in 6. I had been pulling for Baltimore, though I realized that when they beat Texas in the Wild Card game, it left the Yankees path to yet another World Series appearance pretty clear.

This is a weaker Yankee team than in years past, but still a damn good one. They managed to beat Baltimore, who I consider a tougher opponent than Detroit, despite playing a pretty subpar series by their standards.

Plus I've gotta think they're thirsty for vengeance for last year.

One thing we know all too well as Twins fans: the Yankees are really, really good at exposing their opponents' flaws, especially in October. And the Tigers are a flawed team.

Your pitching matchups are incorrect. Since Sabathia pitched game 5 (Friday) against Baltimore, he won't pitch until game 4 (Wednesday). Hughes is scheduled to pitch against Verlander in Game 3.

4th game, 4th inning and its fun and games

CC falls apart.

Gotta love it.

Any of the past 10 Twins teams would have been defeated 3-1 in this series against the Yankees. Both Gardenhire and Girardi should be fired after this game.

I'd have no problem with that result but I sincerely doubt that the Twins would have GOTTEN to this series let alone win a game.

I dunno, the Twins lost some close playoff games in the Bronx partuclarly in those last couple of series. Had the Yankees been without Jeter and Mariano and A-Rod had been reduced to a shell of his former self, some of those may have turned out differently.

I'm surprised the Yankees went down without a fight in the series, even without Jeter. I don't know if Girardi deserves to be fired, but there were some questionable decisions, including the random, head-scratching lineups. I'm sure plenty in the NY media will be calling for it.

The statement has more to say about how the Twins piss their pants every time the Yankees come to town that the state of the current Yankees team.

This was the first time since 2001 that the Yankees got out of the first round without playing the Twins first.

Wow! CC to visit Dr. Death over elbow issues. They say it's only bone spurs but they've been wrong so many times before. I would never cheer for a player to be injured but this would be devastating for NYY.
