goulik Verified Member Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Mitchell Lynn GarverAge: 27 (January 15, 1991)Birthplace: Albuquerque, NMBats/Throws: R/R Ht: 6' 1" Wt: 220Draft: Round 9 (2013, MIN)MLB Debut: 08/19/2017College: New Mexico This excerpt was stolen straight out of Vanimal's AAP last year...2016 was Garver's breakout year you could say. He breezed through AA where he hit .257 with 11 HR 66 RBI .334/.419/.753 OPS in 95 games. He was promoted to AAA on August 10, 2016 and played 22 more games. He had a hot bat to finish the year in AAA, with a .329 .381/.434/.815 OPS slash line. Garver was added to the 40 man roster over the off-season, and, if all goes right, could get a cup of coffee in September with the big league club. Vanimals prediction of a cup of coffee was correct. And that cup of coffee is leading to a whole pot of coffee this Spring. As of today, Garver is slated to be the opening day back up catcher for our favorite club which will mean this could be the fastest AAP graduation ever! See an analysis of the Catching position here.http://twinsdaily.com/topic/28797-article-twins-2018-position-analysis-catcher/?hl=%2Bmitch+%2Bgarver (Thank you everyone who passed on him in the draft and allowed me to be part of this record setting season) I'm not sure how many days of service time he has left before using up his prospect status but I have always taken advantage of opportunities to be the vulture and swoop in for the easy meat. Having said that, I do recognize Vanimal as the AAP parent that saw him get the call so I don't get that credit unless he is sent down for a day or two somewhere along the way before using up his prospect status... This was all made possible by Garvers continued progression with the bat and behind the dish. His progress last year was tracked well here on TD so here is a series of links: Seth wrote this "4 bagger" which includes a Garver sectionhttp://twinsdaily.com/topic/26569-article-four-bagger-jorge-gordon-garver-and-bullpen-arms/ and this "3 Bagger" which included an even bigger Garver sectionhttp://twinsdaily.com/articles.html/_/minnesota-twins-news/minnesota-twins-minor-leagues/three-bagger-red-wings-edition-r5952 all leading up to TD Minor League Hitter of the year as reported by Steve Leinhttp://twinsdaily.com/topic/27517-article-twins-2017-minor-league-hitter-of-the-year/ All this to say, Garver has put in the work to earn this opportunity and I believe he has the drive to make the most of it.
goulik Verified Member Posted April 6, 2018 Author Posted April 6, 2018 First MLB home run of his career. Prospect status dying quickly! (In the good way) ROY status growing? https://www.mlb.com/twins/news/twins-mitch-garver-hits-first-mlb-home-run/c-270994818
goulik Verified Member Posted April 18, 2018 Author Posted April 18, 2018 The way I have added things up (And I wouldn't be surprised if there is an error in my ways) Garver has: 18 days in the majorsor 73 At bats left before his prospect status expires. Since he is catching one out of every 7 games so far this season, I'm guessing it will be the days not the at bats that are used up first. Having only appeared in 4 games, I won't post any stats.
goulik Verified Member Posted May 31, 2018 Author Posted May 31, 2018 Congratulations are in order to former prospect and starting MLB Catcher for your Minnesota Twins, Mitch Garver on his graduation from prospect status! On May 28, Mitch Garver collected his 130th MLB at bat, so this will be my last post on him. I would suggest to a moderator that after a few days, this thread gets locked. In the mean time, lets give it a few days so everyone can congratulate him/ make their final prospect posts... 2018 Stats:AB 88R 9H 21RBI 8BB 8SO 28HR 2Avg .239 Career:AB 134R 14H 30RBI 11BB 14SO 43HR 2Avg .224
