If the Twins had a captain, who would it be?

On SportsCenter they were just running down the top 10 captains in the history of sports. This got me thinking about the Twins and if they had a captain, who would it be?

 

The obvious choice last year was Michael Cuddyer but who would it be for the 2012 version of the Twins?

 

I'd like to hear people's suggestions...

Captains in Baseball is an artificial thing that started by the Yankees and thankfully not many teams have adopted it.

 

The only sports where captains are needed are in sports where a coin flip is involved and they need a player to call heads or tails... that is about it...

In the past, I would have thought Morneau. But its hard to see anyone in that role until we see who is healthy.

I would think Morneau or Pavano.

Mauer clearly doesn't like the leadership role, despite his position, notoriety and contract he seems to avoid being the voice in the club house. In the past I'd say Cuddyer, but not I'd have to say Pavano, maybe Morneau if he recovers.

I would lean toward Morneau but I would like to see Span take on more of a leadership role this season.

I don't mind the idea of baseball captains, but I can't imagine the Twins having one. It'd be like having a zombie foreman.

I would hope Mauer would be the captain. His influence in the clubhouse is vastly underrated. He leads by example on and off the field.

It should be position player in my opinion, as you need someone who is out there regularly. Morneau or Mauer, depending on health.. let them rotate it like they do in hockey between those 2 or whomever else emerges!

Wasn't the word last year that Morneau was the one who stepped in and got in Delmon and Valencia's face when things were going bad?? I don't think he comes off as the leader on the field but he seems like he would be a bit different in the clubhouse. Pavano is the obvious leader of the pitching staff, even if its only be example.

Pavano is the only legit option who has been fairly healthy. I was reading an ESPN top 100 fantasy mlb players list. Twins had zero players on the list. Sad
