Assumes no Sano ---

SP Santana
SP Berrios
SP Gibson
SP Mejia, gotta be.

RP Belisle
RP Rogers
RP Hildenberger
RP Gee (pitching decently, and we need a long guy
RP Pressly
RP Busenitz
RP Duffey
RP Boshers (need a lefty – who else?)

C Castro
1B Mauer
2B Dozier
SS Polanco
3B Escobar
OF Buxton
OF Rosario
OF Kepler
Bench Grossman (DH, PH)
Bench Adrianza (IF, LF)
Bench Gimenez ©
Bench Granite (need a backup OF, pinch-runner)
Bench Vargas (power off the bench, can take over first if Mauer injured – that’s all I can say)
Bench Garver (third catcher allows free pinch-hitting and pinch-running for catchers – RH bat)

Iimagine Sano replaces Garver (based on playing time this week) -- but I might be inclined to take Garver instead.

Maybe if the Twins make the ALDS. My understanding is that teams can set it for the wild card game and then change it for the next round.

IMO, taking 12 pitchers to a one game playoff would be foolish. If you need more than 10, you are losing anyway. Bats will be more useful.

Assuming Colon is skipped Monday, Mejia would be scheduled to start the final game of the regular season. If he does, he wouldn't be available for the wild card game anyway.

If that's true, then yes, 9 pitchers would be more than enough, and you can keep every bench player.  But yes -- I am thinking about a multi-game playoff series.  Otherwise the fringes of the roster  #24, #25, really don't matter.

Shouldn't really need more than 7 relievers (and thus 11 pitchers total) in a multi-game series. Unless there are postponements, there are never more than 3 games in a row. Meaning, your relievers can theoretically work every game if needed, as long as no one gets overworked in one game.

Yeah -- I meant to have 11 pitchers --- and if you count carefully you'll see I inadvertently have 26 on the roster.  So  ---- What pitcher to remove?  Duffey? Busnitz?

If I had to make the call today it would be Duffey. He's been pretty bad since the Break.

I've got to think Colon is on the roster. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he's the 4th starter and Mejia prepares as a starter with the expectation to start in the 5th inning or something like that.

Also wouldn't be surprised if Colon was  on in that long relief role. He seems pretty competent the first trip or too through the lineup. When pitchers are pitching on short rest, a guy that can go 3 or 4 is pretty valuable.

Colon may not make another appearance in a Twins uniform. He is sure to be skipped Monday. If Saturday means anything, the Twins aren't likely to start Colon IMO. A bullpen game seems more likely.
