sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 I can't decide if we're doubling up today, or doubling down? Whichever... My thoughts are as disordered as Molitor's use of the bullpen at times is perceived to be. Which should make me just about ripe for introducing a Game Thread? We'll see about that. Scale: Hairspliting: Fly outs and tagging up. Always bothered me. To advance on a fly out, the runner must tag up until it is caught. But what if it gets juggled, the runner leaves, then it is caught? And one is allowed to tag up on an infield fly rule. Shouldn't you be allowed leave as soon as the ump calls it? Mundane: Target Field a nice place to play, or so i hear. We should perhaps start playing a wee bit better there. Sublime: I got some music to catch up on from the last game thread... I'll be back. But i figured while we dealt well with the Minnesota aspect of it, we missed out on the River mentioned... So here's a little bit of that. Ol' Man River. Waist deep in the big muddy (and the big fool said to push on) Old Folks at Home (Swanee river, as rivers should be known by their water fowl...) Etherial: Baseball, with it's start and stop action, game state, and turnbased-ness, lends itself better than many sports to radio broadcast. Admittedly a lot of information is lost that way, but still, it does better than the other sports, in my opinion. Epic: next week's astronomical event. Barrios will reach up into the sky, grab the fireball from the sky, and hurl it towards home so fast no batter will be able to stand in against it. The world will be dark until a Majestic Swing from Sano launches it back into its rightful place. Obviously we are now in the time of legends, about to challenge the Fortress of Ultimate Darkness for the most Fabulous Item in the Universe. (I've got an idea forming in my brain...) Game 0: Cleveland: P. Carlos Carrasco (R ) 1. Francisco Lindor (S) SS 2. Jason Kipnis (L) 2B 3. Jose Ramirez (S) 3B 4. Ewin Encarnacion (R ) DH 5. Jay Bruce (L) RF 6. Carlos Santana (S) 1B 7. Brandon Guyer (R ) LF 8. Bradley Zimmer (L) CF 9. Yan Gomes (R ) C Minnesota: P. Kyle Gibson (R ) 1. Brian Dozier (R ) 2B 2. Max Kepler (L) RF 3. Joe Mauer (L) 1B 4. Miguel Sano (R ) 3B 5. Eddie Rosario (L) LF 6. Eduardo Escobar (S) DH 7. Byron Buxton ( R) CF 8. Jorge Polanco (S) SS 9. Jason Castro (L) Forecast is Mostly Cloudy and 64F
big dog Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Marney just informed us that the Indians are 9-0 in recent Target Field history. Gulp. Let's Bust The Streak. Go Twins. Go Gibson.
big dog Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Watching from out of town on mlb.com. Not looking forward to another 25 viewings of "I see you, fee played by legendary actress Angelica Houston."
big dog Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 OK, this is just me, but I sure hope they pitch Encarnacion inside. Move his feet. Or duck.
big dog Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 "Fee played by legendary actress played by Angelica Houston" count: 2. Still waiting for the first pitch.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 What a beautiful day for baseball...
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Gibson struggling already. Imagine that.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 So tired of seeing these same old duds who can't get anyone out trotted out there. When will it end????????
Jerr Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Cleveland has more runs than outs, right now...I wonder if that has ever happened, at the end of a MLB game?
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 He just can't get anyone out. No put away pitch.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Gibson, same old story. Just does not have the major league stuff to consistently put away major league hitters. Gets ahead...can't get outs.
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Listening to the Cleveland broadcast, and got this gem; "When Kyle Gibson gets ahead, he doesn't attack the zone, he becomes Mr. Nibbles". I have never been so sure of anything in my life as I am sure that I will forevermore refer to Kyle Gibson as Mr. Nibbles.
big dog Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Legendary actress Angelica Huston count, 3. Will the Indians score more runs than the number of times that ad will appear? Let's hope not. I'd like to see Gibson get mad instead of frustrated. What the heck, frustrated isn't working for him.

FunnyPenguin Provisional Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Okay so that was a darn good at bat by BD
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Carrasco is taking notes from Gibson, it would appear
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Carrasco is taking notes from Gibson, it would appear Excuse me, from Mr. Nibbles.
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Okay so that was a darn good at bat by BD My concerns with Dozier batting leadoff would decline by about 80% if he had PA's like that one on a regular basis.
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Cleveland Announcer: "When Joe Mauer and his wife started their family, of course they had twins. Literally." As opposed to having twins figuratively? How would one have twins figuratively?
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 What's the record for most pitches to start a game before getting an out? Carrasco with 28 has to be close, right?
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Cleveland adds Edwin Encarnacion over the winter, and Jay Bruce in August. I don't understand why the Twins never do similar things.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Maybe someone can inform Molitor that Sano is in a slump.
Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Are we really not going to score here?
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Cleveland adds Edwin Encarnacion over the winter, and Jay Bruce in August. I don't understand why the Twins never do similar things. Because players can't play for two teams at the same time.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Should'a sent Dozier on Mauer's hit.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Because players can't play for two teams at the same time.In my defense, I did say similar.
Cap'n Piranha Verified Member Posted August 17, 2017 Posted August 17, 2017 Are we really not going to score here? I mean, this is the 2017 Minnesota Twins. Scoring with the bases loaded and no outs would be very much out of character.
Marek Houston Wichita Wind Surge - AA SS On Saturday, Houston went 3-for-5 and scored two runs. After a short slump, he is now back over .290 on the season. Explore Marek Houston News >
