A quick check

http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?sid=milb&t=l_tba&lid=130

shows that the DSL Twins are really hitting the cover off the ball.

The team AVE/OBP/SLG/OPS versus team medians are:

(AVE) .285 versus .243

(OBP) .371 vs ..337

(SLG) .417 vs. .326 {sic:  yes, the majority of teams have SLG less than OBP)

(OPS) .788 vs. .666

Four players of note (all with over 100 AB's) are:

Name, position, OBP, SLG, AVE, OPS

Yeltsin Encarnacion SS  .445 .550 .349 .996
Alberoni Nunez CF  .416 .539 .359 .955

Estamy Urena SS .397 .485 .331 .882 5
Juan Martinez LF  .406 .430 .318 .836

Yes, I am aware that this is based on a number of 17 and 18 year olds who are years away from even AA and 100 AB is 1/6th of a decent sample size. So, many grains of salt have been taken.  But, hey, this can't be considered "bad" news.

Got to add 17 year old Wander Valdez who is hitting .282/.378.443, signed as a SS and has been playing in the infield corners (mainly at 3B), which is pretty interesting news as well.  Encarnancion is a bit older (19) but he is having a break-through season.  Nunez and Urena are 18.  Martinez is 20.   Another 17 year old of note is Venezuelan C Victor Heredia who is hitting .286 /.384/.381.  They barely play catchers so nobody has those 100 PAs...

Why do they barely play catchers?  Is it T-Ball?

Close.  They have 5-6 catchers who all need to play and 17 and 18 year old kids need to take a break from catching.  One thing that has to be mentioned is that DSL does not have a roster limit.

Don't worry.  Someone will tell you why this means we're the worst team in the league.  I'll be in the corner toasting the win.

We may not be able to project much based on individual performances, but consider that the team has a record of 41-16. That's a .719 winning percentage. There are 40 teams competing in the DSL, and none of the other 39 teams has a better record. None of our counterparts in the AL Central is even fielding a team with a winning record. I don't know how much this all means, but it's not meaningless.

DSL stats have practically no predictive value.

... I disagree (with tongue in cheek), in that they definitely have a NEGATIVE predictive value! Even 'good' prospects don't get off the island with horrible DSL stats.
