Jake Depue is providing some very good weekly content at 1500ESPN on the Twins minor league system. This week, he chatted with Rochester catcher Mitch Garver on his success at AAA, his increased power, his plate discipline, his defense and much more. He even talked about playing out in left field. “We know the ultimate goal is not just to be put on the 40-man, we want to be on the 25-man,” he said. “It’s something you always think about. Long term you have that vision of being in the big leagues and being a successful player on that level, but what do you have to do short term to get that point?”

So, the headline gets cut off in the browser, and I was expecting to read "Mitch Garver on his way up to the Twins."

If he wants to learn to call games and field the outfield like an MLBer, that's where he should be.

And if he wants to learn the outfield in MLB for the Twins, he should be a full-time infielder in their minor leagues.

Really like his attitude about learning. He says he experiences things in the OF, comes in and asks Shuck and Granite for help. Sounds promising.

 

When I read that Recker was included in the Garcia deal I wondered if he would be going to AAA and Garver was going to come up to MLB. Not sure who they would drop from the 25-man roster. The most obvious options are pitchers.
