It'd be nice to have a bullpen arm get through an inning without giving up a run/lead, but I guess with the way things are going we should be thankful that they still have the lead.

Duffey did give up a dinger, but I like the way he reacted - struck out the next two guys. How many pitchers do that? How many times have we seen a pitcher walk the next guy after a homer? Not Duffey, he keeps fighting.

It's in close games like this that Escobar's versatility makes a bench with only the backup catcher and a DH/1b available in addition to him seem less than completely insane.

Agreed, but this does suggest a question: If Escobar was traded, who in AAA or AA would take his place? I'm thinking Nico Goodrum.

Escobar can hit more than Goodrum. He is saying when Polanco is here, there shouldn't be Adrianza and Escobar on the bench.

Good question, and I like your answer. With the Twins operating with a short bench for the foreseeable future, a utility infielder who can't play short is a luxury they can't afford, so it's a relatively short list of candidates if they want to promote from within.

 

I see Goodrum's made a few putouts in CF at AA and at 2b in A+, and we know he can play 3b, so he's already got a head start on filling his utility bingo card.

The Twins bullpen is underated.  They limit the bad outings to a handful of games where everyone's bad.  I also think people are missing the real story on Giminez pitching 4 times it's not that the bullpen is awful it's that they are less willing to waste a pitcher in that situation.
