The old thread had gotten stale. Here are tonight's pregame notes for Fiers/Berrios. Always looking for comments!

Berrios said after the game that he didn’t have his best command and didn’t have a good feel for his changeup, but that his head was in the game the whole time and he felt he competed well. Manager Paul Molitor said he was proud of Berrios for how he battled on a night where things could have easily gone sideways against a powerful lineup, especially considering how things did go sideways on Jose at times last year as he posted an ERA in excess of 8.00.

 

This may be a really good point. Amid all the consternation last year about what Berrios's deal was, it really did seem like he was pressing, or mentally unprepared for the majors. This night he looked more like he took a page from Phil Hughes's book - iffy stuff but with focus and a plan. I think if he gets back on the horse against the Angels, that'll be a great sign regarding his mental toughness and readiness.
