According to the below article, former Twins minor league catcher Jairo Rodriguez was expected to fly to the Dominican Republic this weekend to begin his coaching career in the DSL.

However, that will be delayed. Last night in his hometown, he was attacked and shot in the stomach. According to google's translation of the article, he had surgery and appears to be in stable condition.

I'm not sure if we'll hear more details or when, but obviously keep him in your thoughts.

Venezuela is in a bad place right now. It can be assumed that he was targeted for robbery, because he, unlike most of the population, has money and is able to take care of his family. From the information I have gathered, it's a desperate place, fraught with dangers.

I wish Jairo Rodriguez a swift and full recovery and hopefully he is able to relocate to the U.S. or another country where he does not have a target on his back.
