Wow, they traded him for a 24 year old second baseman who hasn't played above A+.  I know Bucholz has some attitude issues and he sucked last year but cripes, I think we could have easily topped that offer.

I'd rather have Bucholz over Santiago. Seems like there is a pretty decent chance that the Phillies will be able to flip him at the deadline for more than they gave up to acquire him.

Yea, but the P's are also paying all 13.5M of his salary.  Red Sox get some cash relief and P's potentially get to flip him for more then they paid.

 

I don't see the Twins adding to payroll right now.

To be fair, Brian Dozier was once a 24 (future) second baseman who hadn't played above A+.

 

I guess that not being a shortstop, Josh Tobias has fewer options moving down the defensive spectrum.  But as a college draftee, his lack of experience shouldn't be too big of a knock on him. Who knows, maybe the Red Sox like him.

 

Although I'd guess the primary factor here was money, and the Twins probably wouldn't want to take on that salary even if they had Josh Tobias to trade.

Considering Buchholz's pitching pace makes Mike Pelfrey look fast and considering how often he complains and looks miserable, I may not have been able to handle watching any games he pitched had the Twins traded for him.

 

I definitely would have had a broken TV.
