Question about Nate Roberts

Is this guy a real prospect? He's putting up good numbers but he's repeating A ball. He's 23. So that would seem to indicate he's not much of a prospect. But his OBP numbers have been great. I'd like to see what he could do against better competition.

The word on Roberts is that he doesn't have any plus tools. His OBP is so high thanks to getting hit by a ton of pitches (43 times in 114 games in Beloit). He also has been very injury-prone. His ceiling - my take anyway - is that of a 4th outfielder. He's a decent hitter and a decent defender. But, obviously, if he can keep his OBP in the .440s, he'll work his way into the prospect picture... but I think we can all agree it's time for him to move up.

he needs to move up and get tested more. maybe try and bump up Lance Ray to AA and see what he has and shuffle some chairs. I like Roberts obp skills and base stealing abilities. probably a bench guy but he could be an everyday player on a bad team.

Is Lance Ray's Batting Average over .210 yet?

 

I think Roberts is a prospect in the sense that I do think he can be a solid 4th outfielder. Great on base skills. Some pop, good, line drive swing. Decent defense. Good speed.

 

At this point, though, he could move up and move Kepler to Beloit... But the Snappers are playoff bound, and a lineup of Roberts, Rosario, Sano, Vargas, Leachman, Williams, Koch, is a pretty good start.

Buxton to ELIZ, Keplar to Beloit, Roberts to Ft Myers, Ray to New Brit, Benson to ROC.....is there any team in the organization that would be worse off if the avalanche of OF promotions happenned

That's a remarkable stat. Over the past 2 years, he gets plunked more often than MLBers draw walks (8.9% to 8.1%). I wonder how many other times the umps didn't give him his base.

I think that this might hurt New Britain -- losing Benson and getting Ray.

Ray's hitting .229 ,but his bat wouldn't warrant a promotion. yet his versatility could be useful as a back up in New Britain. either way it would be best to find a way to bump Roberts even if it'd mean releasing someone.

Minimal difference for Buxton and Benson at this point.

 

Kepler and Roberts I can get behind. Ray I'm indifferent.
