Carlos Paulino 26, Born Sept. 24, 1989

Catcher-Rochester Red Wings

Signed by the Marlins as an 18 yr old international free agent

Traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2011

Signed as a Minor League free agent Dec. 2014 by the Twins

2014 Scouting report from Baseball Prospectus dsecribed him as a "standout defender" with "soft hands" and good at framing a pitch. Hes not much of a hitter but could make a big league appearance someday because of his defense.

His time split between Rochester and Chatanooga last year produced a triple slash of 262/328/337.

So far this year in 38 at bats he is hitting 211/318/263 with 5 walks and 6 strike outs.

Paulino has all of 50 at bats in Rochester this year and has a 584 OPS to go with it. I would guess his only chance of not being a cut sometime this year is if Suzuki is traded or either Murphy or Centeno get injured. Otherwise he is not going to survive a promotion of any Chatanooga catchers.

Paulino stepped to the plate 25 times in the past month. It's hard to put up numbers when your watching Murphy get all the at bats. 227/294/293. Will he survive today's promotions?

Paulino is still in Rochester but is still one AB short of 100 since his April 6th promotion to AAA. He's hitting 232/310/283 for Rochester.

Defensively he has thrown out 9 of 25 would be base stealers. He has not had an error at AAA but does have 3 passed balls in 274 innings behind the dish.

Paulino spent the entire season betweenn AA and AAA without getting put on the DL. In two separate AA stints he spent a total of 22 days in Chattanooga.

In Rochester he was given 274.1 innings behind the dish and hit 232/310/283 in a whopping 99 at bats.

In Chattanooga he was given 17 innings behind the dish and hit 200/333/200 in 10 at bats.

Yup, thats it! 109 At Bats in a whole season.

2017 Outlook

Paulino is being used as organizational filler at AA and AAA behind those considered Catching Prospects. At age 27 for the majority of next season, Paulino has seen his prospect days pass by him. If he is back in our organization next year, he has resigned himself to that fact. If not, he will be trying to catch on with another organization.
