"Twins Are Not Trading Ricky Nolasco"

Remember Carl Pavano ? He signed a good contract with the Yankees and struggled with injuries for 4 years.  Then he signed a contract with Cleveland, he pitched pretty well and the Twins traded for him. We got 3 good years from him.  It never pays to give up too soon.   :)

I hope they keep Nolasco.  He started 8 games last year and the Twins won 5 of them.  That is pretty good percentage.

That is a really silly metric.  He gave up 1.7 runners per 9 innings and almost 7 runs per 9.  Over time, his W-L will reflect that.

He has been absolutely terrible for two years and he was not even league average when we signed him by career ERA+

After the Yankees declined Pavano's option for 2009, he went to Cleveland, where he posted a 5.37 ERA, earned roughly market rate salary after incentives, and netted Yohan Pino in an August waiver trade.  The Yankees went on to win the World Series that season, and the Twins went on to pay Pavano more or less market rate salaries for the next 3 years.

Not really a great example of teams giving up on a player too early, although upon closer inspection, perhaps that's what you meant with the smiley face at the end? :)
