Maximizing Santana

he is a streaky as hell guy. Hopefully he doesn't revert to bad Santana the rest of this season.

Perhaps that should have been taken into account when the pitchforks were coming out.

Since we're still trailing 2 teams, if we're going to do this thing, a game 163 tiebreaker seems likely.

 

Unfortunately, there isn't a whole lot we can do to get Santana in line to start that game anymore, even on short rest.  Probably should have made this a higher priority a few weeks ago when we had off days, Hughes returning, Pelfrey shifted, and Milone fading.

 

I guess best case right now for a potential tiebreaker is starting Pelfrey, with Santana in "Game 7 Madison Bumgarner" mode, prepared to pitch extended relief on 2 days rest.

I still say start him on short rest on Thursday. If there is a playoff game on Monday we can play it by ear. If there's a 3-way tie there would be a second playoff game on Tuesday and he could go in that one. Keep in mind he's a veteran who should know what he's doing and his season didn't start until July so he's in mid-season form. Time to put the accelerator to the floor.
