actually, you help make the case. season ain't over yet and, even though i've never been a hunter fan, i hafta admit he's already earned his money.

My lack of complaint about the Hunter signing was more out of general laziness than any sort of confidence that it was a good move.

That being said, as you said he's certainly fulfilled his end of the bargain so far by, at age 39, posting a first half slash line that is virtually indistinguishable from his previous four seasons despite a ten-year low in babip.

And as a personal bonus, his outburst vs. KC offended the delicate sensibilities of a person attending the game who is my friend when she's not busy being a Royals fan.

What intangibles do you speak too?

The offense other than Dozier and Plouffe has taken a huge step back (I doubt you can credit Hunter for their improvement) Neither Hicks or Buxton has looked solid yet. The offense as a whole has let the Twins down the past several weeks etc.

i speak "too" the intangibles that have lifted the twins above .500, which is pretty unexpected (except maybe among clairvoyants). the backward steps you site only bolster the case -- hunter has helped show the first-half twins how to become a whole greater than the sum of their parts. and, as mentioned, i'd never before been a hunter believer ...

I think that is too broad of a generalization.  Hunter has loosened the club house, no doubt.  However, better starting pitching (adequate fielding) and clutch hitting have been more responsible (or were more responsible).  Torii has outperformed what I thought he would bring so far, and that is great.  However, I am terrified that because of this, and his popularity, that Ryan will sign him again for next year (even as he regresses or if he regresses a bit).  Causing the log jam, that we will have there, (in addition to 1b, and SP), preventing younger higher upside prospects to get their shot.

i agree -- my hunch is that re-signing torii would be a big mistake for several reasons. at the same time, i've been wrong about him before (and even thought he'd be washed up before the end of the contract with l.a.).
