Anyone just notice that Scherzer lost a perfect game with 2 outs in the 9th when Jose Tabata leaned into a pitch and got hit.

9 ip 0 h 0 bb.

Last two starts:

18 ip, 1 h, 0 r, 26 k, 1 bb. 54 of 57 batters retired.

Another fun fact - his game score for this game was 97 yet lower than his last game.

It was a total lean in that the umpire, by rule, should not have allowed, too. The game was robbed of a perfect game, not only by a cowardly batter (Jose Tabata of the Pirates) totally lowering his elbow to get hit on his elbow pad, but by an umpiring team that didn't get it right, by rule of the game. Meanwhile, in the College World Series, twice so far a batter didn't move - far less of an infraction of moving into the ball to be hit - and the umpire did not allow the batter to take the base. Good for them. That is the rule, and this one was obvious. Say what you want about the traditions of baseball, Scherzer and baseball was robbed today.

Obviously Tabata could have jumped back out of the way, but it was an inside breaking ball and maybe he was just following the pitch. Here are the links, you be the judge

Every out of Scherzer's no hitter (Tabata HBP at about 4:40):

Nope, Tabata was not following the pitch. He did that on purpose.

Now this is not a nice thought at all, and I suppose people are really going to love me for saying this, but I almost hope that he gets hit again tomorrow ... in the same spot.

If I am being the judge....... no way he was following the pitch. He was trying to align his elbow pad with the ball, and did a great job of it. People may say this is never called. That makes it OK. If there is a rule, and it is never called, then change the rule. If there is a rule, and you don't call it, then an umpire is making rules up. Anytime, Any game. If College umpires can get it right, so can MLB umpires. I have no respect for Tabata for his behavior, but the Plate Umpire and the whole team need to get it right, and enforce the written rule.

I was there. It was amazing to be part of that history.  I would have loved the perfect game, but Scherzer was very off in his location that entire at-bat. Once he lost the perfecto, it was if a weight was off his shoulders, and he focused much better to finish the no-no.
