Lucky not to get a concussion from that.  He must not have played hockey as a kid.

Hockey has a ton of concussion issues, so that doesn't really make a lick of sense.  Somehow the hockey head trauma issue has flown far under the notoriety of the football head trauma issue.

Right, I was referrencing the speculation that Corey Koskie and Justin Morneau owed their concussion susceptibility from playing hockey as youths.

Eh, I consider such comments very ill-informed and basically noise, so I guess it didn't even register. Gomez most certainly received damage to his brain tissue in the play, though likely not to the level of a diagnosed concussion. A diagnosed concussion is like a diagnosed ligament tear. You can do a lot of damage to the ligament without tearing it, and it's never diagnosed as a tear, but every bit of damage does increase the impact of the next "hit" to the area. I've had four diagnosed concussions in my life, but in spite of playing football to the collegiate level and a number of blows to the head in baseball and basketball growing up, I was never once diagnosed in sports in spite of taking more direct hits to the head area. I'm not old enough yet to have insurance pay for any scanning, but I will wager a scan of my brain wouldn't look pretty.
