These three together probably would not bring in return what Span brought. And they would be tough to package. Individually, you get future Eduardo Escobars and Logan Darnells in return.

Hicks I get but shortstops and 3rd baseman that finished in the top half should bring something better than what you suggest.     Why is anyone down on either one of them?

Using Arcia's minor league track record as a gauge for future production is a bit misleading. When he was spending full seasons in the minors, he used a different approach that allowed him to use the entire field more but with less power potential.

Brunansky said he did not want to change him from what he is now back to where he was but he wants to refine the approach so that he can have the power potential with a higher batting average.

I would gladly take what he gave us in the minors.   I also believe that he has gotten bigger and more powerful so that if he made the same contact now as he did in the minors the power would be there.   I am petty sure we are saying the same thing in terms of destination but I would like to see him focus on good contact and let he homers take care of themselves.

I think he was just that much better than the pitchers in the minors and could get away with swinging at high pitches based purely on ability.  Now, the pitchers are better and he needs to learn and adjust to how he is being pitched rather than just go up whacking away like he was able to his entire life prior to be a MLB player.

I disagree.  Its not like he was facing high school pitchers.   They are better in the majors but not 80 BA points better.    If you look at clips from his minor days he was much more balanced and controlled.    I am fine with your conclusion but not your premise.    He was a good all around hitter and now he is not and need to make adjustments to become one.

Does he still have that dramatic drop in his hands like the GIF from 2014? Dropping his hands like that it's no wonder that he can't handle the high stuff well. Ships passing in the night and so on.

The minors GIF, it's his front foot that's dancing all over the place - his "new" leg kick looks a lot more controlled as a major leaguer.

Maybe there's a happy medium for him to keep things a little more steady in the upper half before he makes contact?

If this comment was directed at mine, I'm not down on Escobar or Plouffe but that w/ the talent behind them in the minors I think they're expendable. My argument isn't that they will bring in a large haul either just that I'd rather have the young guys up taking their lumps to see what the Twins have in them, because until they have pitching, contending is not a real possibility regardless of who is in the lineup.

I don't think the league sees Plouffe as sustainably above average and he doesn't play a prime position. I don't think the league sees Escobar as more than utility.

I was mostly reacting to what I thought was a perception that we could feed the prospect pipeline in a way that the Span trade permitted us. Troyhobbs has clarified a bit, in the meantime. I kind of don't want to contribute further than this to a tangent in this thread, though.

Plouffe would get more.
