Inane Speculation

I have heard snippets from Twins broadcasters in the past few days.  The season is winding down and the product on the field isn't much fun, so they have talked about the future.  Some of the comments interest me--these are guys that have been around the team for years and seen a lot of major league baseball.  However, sometimes I can't believe what I'm hearing.

Dick Bremer discussed the late-season catching combo, and suggested that Pinto might get a start against the Diamondbacks, but that Fryer would most likely start against the "contending" Indians.  This blew what is left of my mind.  Does Bremer think that Pinto's defense is that bad?  Anyone that doesn't see Josmil Pinto as the overall better option at catcher isn't really looking at the whole picture.

Bremer and Bert discussed next year's middle of the diamond.  Bert suggested that Espinosa could be an outstanding utility guy and went on the say that Escobar "can play the outfield".  If Escobar and Santana are both in the lineup all year, Santana has been in the outfield. Escobar played two games out there, and one was disastrous.

Finally, I only heard part of the conversation, but Provus and Gladden were discussing Swarzak competing to be a starter.  What I have seen is that Swarzy barely has enough stuff to last as a long man.  If he weren't arbitration-eligible and out of options, I would be fine with him returning as the long man, but competing for a rotation spot--c'mon!

Meh, filling time by babbling. I don't think that is anything new. In terms of the future Twins, they don't know any more than anyone else here. Well, maybe Thyrlos might know who they want to sign

These guys read from a script, they don't express oringinal thoughts.  What was heard were "trial balloons" bantered around trying construct a line-up that contains Gardenhire's and Ryan's favorites.  What should be illuminating is what we're not hearing--signing more free agents.

Huh? Since these media guys are with the team on a day-by-day basis from the beginning of March to the end of September, in the ballpark and locker rooms in the pregame and postgame, often travel together, and are in the same hotels between games, this statement is almost certainly not true.  They can't help but "hear things" that no one else has access to. And their "babbling" is almost certainly a byproduct of what they pick up, some of which information that is shared to them by management is purposefully intended for mass distribution and consumption by their audience

Name one signing that they broke the news on?  They are not employees of the Twins but of FSN. Their access is the same as any other media. How the Twins have made decisions is kept very close to the vest. Who will be in the future plans and for how long would not be discussed in a public area.  Who plays where and when well may be discussed to the media memebers for upcoming games. Long range plans for players being discussed in public?  Find some proof.  Escobar and Santana s the outfield of the future? That would be brought up as a leak to troll. Looks like someone bought it.
