The Twins Offensive Ineptitude

Does it come as a major surprise to anyone that the Twinshave struggled offensively under Tom Brunansky’s tutelage? Just look at the numbers.

Bruno was a career .245 hitter, who struck out once in every5.1 AB’s. With his guidance over thepast year and a half, the Twins have managed to hit at a robust .244 clip, while whiffing once every 4.2 AB’s.

I understand few great hitting instructors were all-starplayers. But as I recall Bruno’s career, his philosophy was to swing hard at strikes and try to pull everything. Presumably he’s expanded on that thought, butto what avail?

When Gardy gets let go, I hope Mollie is given free reign topick his own staff.

It looks to me that BAVGs around baseball are somewhat lower than recent history. It is too soon to draw a conclusion--especially one where "it's all Brunansky's fault". It wasn't long ago that all hitting problems were heaped on Vavra. Maybe the hitting coach really doesn't matter--except for providing Sunflower seeds and "beverages".

Is there any history of a team firing all of it's baseball managerial staff except for one and then promoting that member to manager? The idea that Gardenhire gets fired and Molitor moves to manager seems far fetched to me.

There is certainly precedent of a team firing a manager, promoting from within, and then changing over parts of the coaching staff. Happened as recently as the Reds last offseason. I think this is a very possible scenario.

I have no idea if Bruno is a good hitting coach although it does seem that he gets a lot longer leash than Vavra got from the fans. Some teams have started carrying two hitting coaches so maybe the Twins should do that next year.

But generally, this isn't a great offense regardless of who the coaches are.
