All of these batters have reached, and each time I think about baserunning, plays to put on, etc. From Mauer through Suzuki, there is really no speed at all.

Yep, Plouffe and Kubel each were in situations where you at least *might* think about sending them, but the red light was automatic in their cases.

Huh, here's one for the Fun With Numbers thread: the only two Twins starters without a hit so far today are Hicks and Florimon. What are the odds?

So you're saying they should have put a roof on it?

No, actually. They play games here in Chicago when it's that cold, too, and no roofs on either the Cell or Wrigley. Detroit is/can be just as cold; as well as Cleveland, New York and Boston. I'm not sure I'm really suggesting anything other than it's ridiculous, imo, to play in weather this cold.

what are the odds that Gibson throws a complete game? It would be nice to save as many bullpen arms as possible for game 2...

Pitch count's not favorable so I say no. 8 innings if he continues to do well.

Yeah, I agree. I would kind of like to see Burton get in an inning in a non-pressure situation...he needs to find the bite on his slider again

Joe Mauer should have hit a dinger there. 11 pitch single to right. Unacceptable.

The one he did hit made him look like Vlad or Yogi as a bad-ball hitter.

What's more encouraging, the hitting today or the pitching? I'll go with pitching because now I am thinking Gibson is for real.

is it just me oris it crazy that blue jays pitchers have taken 155 pitches to get through 6 innings? Anybody know what the record is for pitches by one team to get thru 9 innings? Is colabello hurt? why pull him in the 6th? is he that slow?

Both. The back of my mind is starting to honestly believe this team has a shot at 75+ wins.

Colabello, Kubel, and possibly Dozier/Plouffe will cool off a bit but they're all looking like legit MLB hitters. Going into the season, I was only comfortable saying that about Dozier.

And I think any drop-off from that group can be offset by rotation improvement. Gibson is overperforming but everybody has been pretty shaky, something I don't expect to see all season.

I'm not sure, but I think the strategy started when Gardy was gone, and has continued since he returned. Whenever they get a big lead, they pull CC for Mastro. Not sure how I feel about it, but Mastro has range, and CC hasn't played much in the OF.
