We have a little "pick the stick" contest for each series -- Plouffe is single-handedly trying to do away with the fairly sizeable lead I had.

Lawrie hits the ball to Plouffe and Plouffe flubs it.

Plouffe hits the ball Lawrie... The result will be 180 degrees different.

Gameday is setting a new record for horse*$&% quality, and that's compared to their routinely low bar. This is a joke today. They must have gotten snow in the fiber optics.

180 degrees different? This I gotta see!

(Picturing a rocket to left that hits off the wall so hard it comes back to the third baseman...)

I remember Dickey pitching for the Twins in an early May game in 2009. Mauer had never caught him since he missed spring training and the month of April and Gardenhire ordered Dickey to throw fastballs in a game situation. Dickey allowed the game-winning hit after about a half dozen foul balls.

This anecdote is also retold in Dickey's book.

Here in Twins territory, we employ chess tactics far beyond what any mortal baseball mind could ever hope to understand, all you can do is hope it works :)

When I think 180..

"Plouffe races in on a slow grounder, turns and throws back to third--- OHH and it's down the left field line! No one was covering third! One run scores...

Pedro has moved beyond the strikeout. He is now mastering the art of the reasonably well-hit line drive to the right fielder. I guess that's something anyway.

Did Gardy tell Gibby to not worry about strikeouts? I mean he has been getting outs so I can't complain. Just think it's strange how low his K numbers are.

Ah. The result of the play, not of the hitting. (Sorry, got confused there)

No one covering 3rd sounds vaguely familiar...

Gibson is night and day different from last year. In fact, the weak grounders he is causing reminds me of Deduno.

Any theories about why he is so effective early this year...compared to last?

Um, maybe he is a year further removed from his TJ recovery?

Reasonable theory, chi. If that is the most significant factor, maybe we get a good game from Pelf in the nightcap too. It's a double TJ day.

I really have no idea. That's just my guess.

I think it's completely ridiculous to be playing games in this weather.
I'm fairly certain that they wouldn't be playing if Toronto makes another trip here. 60 miles from Target Field, yesterday would have been fine to play. The temperature was in the mid-50s, we didn't get any snow at all and it didn't rain until after 6 PM. It is much colder today, right around freezing, but no precipitation.

(oh, and Ash? that's still a spoon caddy in the shape of a shoe.) :)

I am searching for a spoon caddy in the shape of a worn-out lawn-mowing tee-shirt, which I presume to equate to a woman's collection of shoes.

I think knuckleballers should be allowed to keep a beer on the side of the mound.

And be penalized by the ump for too much or too little arc.

Blyleven wetting himself over a major leaguer making it from first to third on a single to the right side.
