2013:

Chad Christensen's final season at Nebraska was a very successful one. He was named first-team All-Big Ten as an outfielder after being named first-team All-Big Ten as a shortstop the year before. He ended the season hitting .364/.436/.453/.889 with 8 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 39 RBI, 27 BB/34 K. He boasted a 1.000% fielding percentage while also being in the top 10 in the nation with 8 outfield assists.

Christensen was drafted in the 25th round and sent to the GCL Twins where he struggled a bit. He also moved from the outfield and played primarily 3B with some 1B, LF, and RF mixed in.[TABLE=class: sortable stats_table]

2014:

Chad Christensen will be starting the 2014 season in Low-A for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, the city he is from. I'm from south-central Iowa and plan on making it over to Cedar Rapids to see some games this year. Good luck, Chad!

Chad was 2-4 with a 3B, RBI, and run scored today as the DH for the Kernels. He is now hitting .286 on the year

Posted

So far, Christensen has primarily played LF when he is in the lineup. He has 5 games played there along with 1 at 1B and 1 at DH

Posted

Chad played 1B on Saturday and went 2-5 which raised his average to .297 on the season.

Posted

Christensen was 3-5 with an RBI and a walk while also scoring 3 runs last night raising his average to .323. He had a stolen base which is his 6th of the year.

Also of note is he was at 1B in the lineup last night. He is moving around a lot for the Kernels.

I like this guy a lot in the sense I'm pulling for him. He's a bit old for the league(s) he's been in. I hope he rakes so he can end up at...at least AA this year. A 24 turning 25 year old at AA next year wouldn't be that good. Again, hoping he makes it - I think he could be a great utility player, 4th OF, backup corner IF guy who plays 2-4 games a week for a decent team.

Although the Kernels lost both games, Chad Christensen went 4-8 with a 2B, 2 RBI, and a run scored in the doubleheader yesterday. His slash line is now .281/.338/.372/.710

Christensen had easily his best game of the season last night. He went 4-4 with 2 HR (1,2), 4 RBI, 3 runs, and his 10th stolen base of the season. This raised his batting average to .300 on the season. His performance earned him the Twins Daily Hitter of the Day Award, his first of the year.

The 10th stolen base is a little surprising to me. That is a pretty good number for this early in the season. I'll try to find a scouting report on his speed.

Manager Jake Mauer told media after Wednesday's game that he wouldn't be at all surprised to see a Christensen promotion soon. Had a lot of other complementary things to say, as well.

Jim Ecker's story with those quotes and more can be found at http://metrosportsreport.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=20783:mauer-says-christensen-ready-for-promotion&catid=184:about-msr

Thanks for the link. Mauer also said, "He just always seems to be the right guy in the right spot." And "When the situation comes up and we need something, he always delivers."

That would be great! He has had a good first half of the season. My only problem with it is I haven't been able to make it to a Kernels game yet!

Christensen went 2-2 with 2 walks in game 1 of the Kernels doubleheader yesterday. One of the hits was his 7th homer of the year, and he added 3 RBI. He went 1-3 in game 2 and his average sits at .299.

He also earned Twins Daily Minor League Hitter of the Day, his second time winning the award this year.

Chad Christensen had a pretty good month of June with that bat. As you can see from the Twins Daily Minor League Hitters of the Month, he finished June going 27-89 (.303/.373/.528 (.901) with 4 doubles, 2 triples four homers and 22 RBI.
