Updated Combined Twins Bench and Bullpen Battle Dashboard; 3/15/12

Twins Video

This is the latest update of the Twins' Bench Battle and the Bullpen Battle Dashboards, to track player performance to date this spring. Performances include those in the game vs the Pirates earlier this afternoon. You can read the basic premise behind the Bench Battle Dashboard here and behind the Bullpen Battle Dashboard here. I will be updating them daily and post daily updates.

Players who were assigned to the minor league camp are denoted with MILB and their lines are in italics. For simplicity's sake, I will remove these players from tomorrow's dashboards, but will keep them in the rankings for comparison purposes. It seems that all of the position players who were cut were underperforming and no over-performing pitcher was cut yet.

Here is what the Bench Battle Dashboard looks like today:

Nice worK! Your analysis is fairly close to the Twins' apparently, judging by early demotions. Guys like Gray, Bulger, Doyle, etc. are more likely to be jettisoned than sent to AAA.

If you have the time, how about a spreadsheet with former and potential (your Todd Coffeys and Dan Wheelers) bullpen guys vs. what is in-house?

Yeah, I still commend this highly. That is a lot of red for the players. The pitching is better than expected. I was wondering if there was a way to weight it against a simple bad day's performance. One bad day is possible for everyone and anyone, so Brendan Wise takes a big hit after today, but his proximity (now) to Dumatrait seems to not account for the difference in performance. Maybe. I am being *extremely* nitpicky here, but given how people have these *reactions* to one bad day for pitchers and players, maybe, even if just in the qualitative analysis and not in the quantitative analysis, you can make distinctions between players if they arise. It hasn't really happened yet, but I can see where it could end up being a bit misleading (esp. Doyle).

Han,

Just coincidence. I cannot really get into what if situations, otherwise I would be charting Delmon Young as well :)

Shane,

yeah. You can weigh it any way you want it, thus the whole scores. Feel free to get rid of a single performance and see what happens (and that's the way it works in real life.) Trends are important. Look at Luke Hughes. When he was not right he was stinking up the place. When he got right, he is better...
