Troy's Twins Thoughts 9/6/20

Troy's Twins Thoughts

- Jake Cave has no business being a regular replacement on this team. He ranks near the bottom in all categories and offers no upside.

- Call up Alex Kirilloff already. He isn't getting real at bats in St Paul, let him come up and play ahead of LaMonte Wade Jr.

- Brent Rooker is ready and able to replace a guy like Cave in the lineup. He has had better at bats and overall looked better at the plate than Cave and Wade.

- Rocco needs to stop resting perfectly healthy players. I'm sure Buxton and Donaldson wanted to play.

- La Tortuga is fun and had a nice hit today, but his defence as a catcher was horrific. 2 passed balls that may go down as wild pitches, but totally changed the game. There's a reason he got pulled.

- Rosario's baserunning mistake in the 5th changed the game. No reason to try for home with 0 outs in that situation. Great try on the HR by Castro.

- I really don't know what to think about the non ground rule double in left field. The ball hit in fair territory, then hit above the wall in foul ground, then came back into fair territory. I really don't see how that is a fair ball. I think the rule was put there for the overhang in right field.

Let me know what you think!

Morneau and Dick had never heard of it and it is their job to be aware of all the intricacies to inform the listeners. Clearly, Rosario did not know. That one is on Baldelli.

Yeah I agree tony&rodney. It's wild that it hasn't happend in the 10 years of Target Field. At least that I can recall. I hope they review and change that in the off-season.

Kirilloff is getting a lot more at bats against live pitching now than he would be if he came up to play sparingly.

Tortuga is unplayble, except as a pinch hitter, and I guess when you're down to needing to play your 4th catcher once in a while. Jeffers is really, really good though.

While I don't necessarily agree with all of your thoughts, I love this concept and hope you'll continue to post these. I enjoyed reading each one and either agreeing or disagreeing. It's fun. Thanks Troy!

I think Cave is fine as a replacement, but no not a starter, Wade looks clearly better.

Same with the Turtle as a replacement. Astudillo has at least one more optionyear I’m guessing so very good to have around. I’d be interested in knowing how the interrupted sprig training preparation has affected catchers. Garver looks like he needed a full spring training to work and get in a rhythm. Maybe the same with Astudillo.

Cave does seem to be headed in wrong direction. Especially in clutch at-bats. Seems like automatic out when we need him the most.
