His plus slider and low nineties fastball are still good enough to get him drafted in the middle of the first round. Griffin Canning
Yes, I'm not sure what's more unbelievable - the fact that the Twins could score five round-trippers in the same inning, or the fact that stuff like the scene below made it past the network censors in 1966. Be that as it may, I always enjoy a lookback on the great Twins feats of yesteryear, in addition to childhood TV guilty pleasures. Far be it from me to resort to clickbait; you'll hopefully get the connection between the powerhouse Twins lineup of the mid-1960s and that godawful, campy Batm
Depends on the return of course, but if they can Package Gordon with any other prospect not named Gonsalves or Romero, they should move him for a Pitcher that has some tread. I am not saying a Rent a Cole....but somebody that might be able to give them 5+ years. The Twins are suddenly shortstop rich and have Vielma at AAA went 3-3 last night. I think Gordon is good but hardly irreplaceable...and I dont think he is a once in lifetime player like Sano or maybe Kepler, he is a good chip to hav
After Kinzlers blown save, I was gonna write urging the Twins to find a real closer, a la Nathan, Perkins.etc After last night I am rethinking, Kinzler was good...and Ive seen him good before, my question for you, is he a long term solution?
This was originally published at FoulPlaybyPlay.com, @FoulPlaybyPlay on Twitter. Last week I urged the Minnesota Twins front office to acquire pitching — any pitching — and not to wait too long in doing so. Well, here are five pitchers the Twins could target if they want to remain competitive this season, but most of them will cost something you might not like to lose. Pat Neshek Neshek is familiar to Twins fans, and his side-armed delivery should play well out of a Twins bullpen that can’t mi
After the month of April, Hector Santiago turned the calendar owning a 2.43 ERA for the Minnesota Twins. He'd made five starts and owned a 2-1 record for his efforts. Given the results, there may have even been a line of people ready to question whether or not he was an "ace." Then reality set in, and regression hasn't just gone towards the mean for Santiago, it's been straight up mean to him. Early on in the season, Santiago danced around danger, and has peripheral numbers that suggested his
In the minors on Tuesday there were a few shortstop prospects who collected hits in bunches, including a near-cycle, but they couldn’t quite match the effort of a starter called up to AAA earlier in the day. He did something not many pitchers could say they’ve done over the first three innings, along with setting a career high for K’s on the game. Bad weather in Florida also wreaked havoc on the Miracle’s attempt at a mid-week series. To find out who made the headlines on 2-1 night in the syst
They were the young saplings, mere waifs on the hill for the Twins, but still announcing their presence with authority. It's a Jose Berrios & Dominating Starts By Young Twins Pitchers post at Classic Minnesota Twins. The fascinating eye-candy GIF of Jose waxing on Carlos Gonzalez on May 18, 2017 is worth the price of a visit, as well as the thought-provoking BBRef game-finder table serving as further proof of just HOW amazing young Blyleven was at a young age. Enough of my bull, the rest i
At age 24, Max Kepler has now played 167 major league baseball games. The German-born product has a full season of big league experience under his belt, and the $800k investment Minnesota made in him looks to be paying off. When projecting what he could be in the future, there's one player that I can't seem to get out of my head. Enter the Marlins Christian Yelich. I began making this comparison back in March of 2016, suggesting that Kepler could be a better version of the Marlins outfielder,
In 2016, the Minnesota Twins slogged through what was undoubtedly among the toughest seasons to endure in franchise history. Over 100 losses, not much competitive play, and a season that can be classified as nothing short of lost. If there was a silver lining though, it was Brian Dozier and his 42 home runs. In 2017, we're seeing it again, but from a player that's doing it his own way. Last year, Brian dozier became the first player to hit 40 or more home runs in a season for the Twins, not na
This kid just won the Gatorade Player of the Year 6 2 LHP that touches 94 He is 10-0 with a 0.20 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings this season. It was a sunshiny, spring day like today in Minnesota in 1978 when the California Angels hitter and second baseman Bobby Grich bullrushed Twins pitcher Roger Erickson. What better time for grown men to engage in fisticuffs and flying sucker punches than when Mr. Blue Sky is shining on their labors? I definitely remembered doing this post lately, like after Miguel Sano was brushed back by the Tigers, and when Bryce Harper and his flowing locks charged Hunter Strickland. I think Bobby Grich saw

The dark horse who could unseat him? J.B. Bukauskas. #2 Cincinnati Reds – Brendan McKay – lhp – Louisville McKay plays college ball close to Cincinnati, so their executives and scouts have had plenty of opportunities to see him. Hunter Greene could also be
After the debacle that was the Minnesota Twins series with the Houston Astros, it was apparent that a lackluster bullpen needed and overhaul. The club had shuffled deck chairs too often this season, and there wasn't much room for error to begin with. In one of the moves that was made, we might be able to get a better understanding for what could be to come in regards to roster construction. When the dust settled as Houston left town, the Twins bullpen had given up 28 runs (27 earned) on 29 hit
On May 29, the Minnesota Twins suffered one of the most embarrassing losses in club history. Leading 8-2 in the top of the 8th inning, the bullpen went on to allow 14 runs en route to a 16-8 defeat. At the center of the debacle was manager Paul Molitor's decision making, but there was no one around to hold him accountable. The day following the meltdown, Star Tribune columnist Chip Scoggins was there. He called the game as it was, and lit Molitor up. Despite Minnesota bringing in Jason Wheeler
Earlier this month, I wrote about why I believe the Minnesota Twins must trade Ervin Santana. Sure, regardless of his 2017 output, he's not some reinvented pitcher that's going to command a teams top prospects. However, he's more valuable long term to the Twins if the organization can flip him for some solid pieces. What's worth wondering though, is if Minnesota's winning ways have the organization positioned to be buyer's this summer. Conventional wisdom suggests that the Twins current level
Hunter Greene is a right-handed pitcher who plays baseball for Notre Dame High School in California. Greene is listed at 6’3” and 195 pounds, with a raw, athletic body. Greene is committed to UCLA, but it is unlikely that he will attend college. He has received more hype than any other prospect in this year’s draft, although that is mostly due to marketing purposes. At the beginning of the year, he was considered the top prospect in the draft, but he has lost helium as the draft has gotten clo
Join F@*k Dick and Bert from Target Field on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST as Kyle Gibson looks to preserve his job against Alex Cobb and the Tampa Bay Rays. Every start in the bigs seems like it could be Gibson’s last, but he was bailed out by the Twins’ bats in his last start after allowing six runs in Baltimore. Gibson’s Issues While Gibson’s strikeout numbers this season are right around what we’ve come to expect (6 SO/9), his walks, hits and home runs allowed are way up (4.9 BB/9, 2 HR/9, 13.2 H/9
http://www.the3rdmanin.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/2017-MLB-Draft.png I have already profiled Pavin Smith, Jeren Kendall, and Brendan McKay this year, but now it is time to take a brief look at the other top college hitters available in the 2017 MLB Draft. Jake Burger – Third Base – Missouri State Burger is one of the top hitters in the class, and he has put up monster numbers in the Missouri Valley Conference. He currently plays third, but will end up being a first base/designated hitter
There's no getting around how bad Byron Buxton was to start off the 2017 Major League Baseball season. Through his first 15 games, he was batting under .100 and owns a 24/2 strikeout to walk ratio. If there was a doomsday scenario, this was it. Given the setback that cause, it's overshadowed just how good he's been of late though, and it's probably better than you'd think. Since April 21, Buxton has played in 25 games for the Twins. He has had 86 plate appearances and compiled 73 at bats. They
We are more than a month and a half into the season, and several prospects have gotten off to a great start. I avoided the prospects who have just been on their current team for just the last month and a half. Last year, I made a list like this and all five were promoted soon after I wrote it, so we’ll see if I have similar luck this year. 5. Tom Hackimer, RP, Cedar Rapids I was tempted to put Fort Myers’ Williams Ramirez in this spot, but I decided against it since he has only pitched 22 in
Through their first 41 games, Miguel Sano has been nothing short of a monster for the Minnesota Twins. He's been every bit the offensive stalwart he was expected to be, and he's taken it to a whole new level. Right now, he's been the most impressive player on the club, and in terms of WAR, Fangraphs quantifies him as the best player in baseball not named Mike Trout. The question is, how much of it is a mirage? There's a couple of different scenarios at play with it comes to Sano. He's easily d
Ervin Santana is on top of his game. Earlier this evening, Santana blanked the Baltimore Orioles in a complete game win. It's his second complete game shutout on the season. Santana allowed just two hits, two walks, no runs, and no baserunners after the fifth inning. Santana owns a 7-2 record with a 1.80 ERA in ten starts. In 70.0 innings, he has allowed a mere 31 hits. After tonight, Santana has now won all four of his road starts, allowing just one run in 29.0 innings in those starts.
On Saturday, Tait went 2-for-4 with a walk and his 17th double. The 19-year-old is hitting .219 with 17 doubles and 15 home runs at High-A Cedar Rapids.
