  1. Have a question about that, Steve. Does Cedar Rapids stay at a hotel in the Quad Cities when playing there? Or do they take the hour plus bus ride every day? Always good seeing Kirilloff and Lewis mentioned in these reports. Was checking the Top 20 performance list and didn't see Jax. Expect he is pitching his way onto some Top 20's come the end of the year. That's assuming he is still part of the organization at that time.
  2. Do they have enough powder left over to sign the Canadian lefty? Someone else? [Disregard this comment, thought the amount listed above as remaining was after signing Julien. After looking again, they used every dollar remaining to get him signed. Nice going front office!] Another year where they signed over 30 picks. Much different than the past when the norm was mid-20's signed each year.
  3. Interesting that there are no mentions of Pineda. Big Mike continues getting better seemingly with every start. Have a question about Arraez. Can he be selected Rookie of the Year if he doesn't have X minimum at bats? Lets say he hits .325 average with around a .400 OBP the rest of the year...say 200 more at bats. Would they vote a guy the top rookie with a .335 average and .410 OBP, but only 300 at bats? Could they?
  4. Question, Seth...was that Urbina's first 3 hit game? Because they are very young, the DSL Twins aren't winning a lot of games (9-20) . But Urbina has been steady with his numbers continuing to get better...and is now hitting over .300 average. Appears that Kirilloff's wrist problems are behind him as he has been hitting like the player we have come to know these past few weeks. Should he continue doing so for the rest of the month, he will solidify his lofty spot in the national rankings. And a message for the front office...do not trade this young man! Have a good day, Seth. Thanks for the report.
  5. Hadn't looked at it, Mr. Brooks. Davis was 3 for 8 with a home run, kind of a toss-up. I guess Miranda stood out the most. He was 4-8 with a double and 4 RBI.
  6. Today it was Thorpe and Winder. Great seeing each with 8 K's and nooooo walks. And the better news is that Thorpe is one phone call away.
  7. Two different names, another two great starts. Seems to be the case every day with Poppen and Rijo getting it done yesterday. Gotta think there is someone in Rochester from among Smeltzer, Poppen and Thorpe that can step in next year. But we thought that last year with Stewart, Gonsalves and De Jong, etc. Jax wasn't his sterling self, but not too bad either. Hope you enjoyed your Holiday also, Seth.
  8. Isn't that Fort Myers pitching staff loaded, Seth? Dominating shutouts by starters two of the last three games. And four of the above eight are all in their pen. Could there be another ring in their future?
  9. HEAR YE! HEAR YE! The ANTHONY ESCOBAR BANDWAGON is leaving the station. COME ONE! COME ALL! And join me on the ANTHONY ESCOBAR EXPRESS. All Aboard!
  10. Love how this process has been imporved in the last CBA. No longer allows for big teams beating the system...just ask the Braves. This process means so much to the Twins as Polanco, Sano, Kepler, Arraez, Astudillo and Thorpe were all International players they signed. Take them out of the organization and it is a different team. Others such as Cruz, Adrianza, Gonzalez and Schoop were International, but not signed by the Twins.
  11. Guess we are going to have to get to know this Phillips guy, eh? Smeltzer, Barnes and Schulfer...fantastic having what seems like two or three great starts every night. Hopefully, one of these guys will keep at it all the way to the Twins. Also great seeing multi-hit nights from the big two, L+K...keep'em coming!
  12. Just checked, Seth. It was Mejia. Now lets hope like heck he is healthy and can be the lefty this team needs. Would fill one of two or three spots needed.
  13. Looking at this group, Javier isn't doing well in A-ball and they would be selling low...too many questions. Yet, the little he has played means its like he is starting his career in low A-ball, certainly deserving his #5 ranking. Larnach, great season from a top pick. Graterol, fantastic prospect. Yet, the injury may affect his value in a trade. Kirilloff and Lewis are the same story. Top 10 nationally, or at least they were, who will be sliding based on disappointing numbers for Lewis and so-so for Kirilloff who has battled an injury. Don't see the Twins getting true value for either of these...at least the value we think should be there based on their ceilings. So when there is a trade, I see the players leaving being from further down the list, or maybe Larnach. Fortunately, there are some great stories there...Rooker, Gordon, Diaz and a smorgasbord of pitchers. Just look at the pitchers who had great outings last night!
  14. Wonderful seeing Jax get that weekly award. He could be one to reach the Twins rotation sooner than anyone expects. Rooker continues to rake and Gordon has been solid. Then there is Diaz, who may be having the best year at the plate of anyone in the organization. Will be surprised if at least one of the three isn't gone a month from now. Also enjoy seeing Garry, Jr's name mentioned. He is off to a nice start to his first full season as a pro. Interesting transaction, moving Torreyes off the 40-man. That opens a spot for whomever the Twins recall before tonight's game. Could they be adding Reed? Or maybe it will be Mejia who needs a spot to come off the 60-day. What have you heard Seth?
  15. Had forgotten about Eades, Seth. And now that you mention it, he did ok in his brief stint up here whenever that was. Let's hope Mejia answers one question for the pen. Expect he would replace the rotating group coming up from Rochester.
  16. At first glace, I thought Enlow at #10, hmmm? But I understood as soon as I finished reading your comments. Since returning from the IL, Rooker has been better than I expected. Heck, even the K's are getting down to a reasonable number. Still don't know what his future is with the Twins...if any? There are no starting outfield jobs, perhaps a spot as #4 with time at first and some DH at bats. But there is also Raley, Kirilloff and Larnach right on his heels with all able to fill those same three slots. Gotta believe one of that group will be gone come August 1. My hope is that it isn't Kirilloff! As for Cavaco. These guys are so young. He could end up being a star, maybe better than Lewis. Or he could end up being a AAAA player. I guess that's why there are six levels in the minor leagues for them to work their way thru.
  17. Good morning, Seth. Thanks for today's report. Expected Thorpe would be headed back to Rochester. Hope his ticket is on Tuesday so he and his parents have some time together in Chicago. Thought he was much, much better than I feared, but not quite as good as I dreamed. Sure has the 'stuff' to be a big league pitcher, doesn't he? Other question is who is next up in Rochester to fly out to California? Littell isn't eligible to return...is he? Don't see Romero, so is Poppen next up? The Twins need a lefty specialist, a lot in my opinion. Could Mejia be that arm? What do you think the strategy is by their using him as an opener? The results have been excellent. Also, do they move him up to Rochester for the last 10 days? Two other things really caught my eye yesterday, Seth. First was Kirilloff's 3 for 3, plus a walk, day. Let's cross our fingers that this is a sign he will be the hitter we came to know last year these last two months of the season. Second item was seeing two big prospects on the mound. Not only did Wells make his return, Benninghoff also had a successful inning which makes me say....yahooooooo!
  18. Enjoyed reading your report, Matt. Especially liked your comments about Cody Allen. Could the Twins be so fortunate to have him work out for a August-November run? One game to go for the Red Wings to be at .500. Then onward towards a playoff spot. Wasn't that long ago they were 13 games under. Gotta be excited for them as they begin to get some of their players back from the Twins. Does Jax impress you as much as me? Not knowing much about what type of pitcher he is, keep wondering who is a good comparison...at least success wise. Would it be Radke? Or may Gibson or Scott Baker? Anyone have any ideas of what we can hope for? And isn't Winder having a really nice season for the Kernels?
  19. Any trade that requires any of Lewis, Graterol, Kirilloff or Balazovic, my answer is no. Probably means the trade including one of the above will happen tomorrow. But I do doubt something like this will happen. The reason is that even though this team is on fire, I think Management believes they are still building towards a future a few years out.
  20. Yes, the Twins need some help in the bullpen. But Duffey seems to be developing into the answer for one of those late inning spots. Looking at his face and body language he doesn't look all that confident, but his results are. When the TV crew had Harold Baines in the booth yesterday, he and Bert were talking about the Hall. Kept thinking who on the Twins could someday achieve that feat. Depending on who you talk to, Mauer has a good chance or is likely, but he is retired. Maybe Cruz, but how about anyone from this young core? To get into the Hall you have to be very good, consistently good for a long time. I have continued to support Kepler since his early years in the organization. When some were talking of trading him or his being a fourth outfielder who played some first base, I didn't get it. I saw him as a great athlete who was going to be a future star. Coming from his background, it was just going to take a little longer. Lets assume he has another dozen productive years. No one knows what the future holds, but it is not unrealistic that he can have a career average around .280 and hit 35-40 home runs most years with around 100 runs and RBI's. Take those numbers times 12 plus what he will have at the end of this year and you would have career stats of .280 lifetime average, 525-550 home runs, and 1,500 runs and RBI's. Add good speed along with being a premier defensive right fielder who does a very solid job in center. He's not going to accomplish that every year, but should he average the above by the time he is 38, does that make the Hall? I don't know, but if he would pick up a MVP or two he would certainly have serious consideration. Does he continue to improve, remain healthy and play into his mid to late 30's, only time will tell. I imagine one can make the same set of projections for Polanco. Kind of reminds me of when I was a younger man living in Wisconsin and the Brewers had Yount and Molitor. The Twins look awfully smart having gotten Kepler and Polanco signed for the next 5-6-7 years. Hopefully, they can do one step better than the Brew Crew and keep both for their entire careers. If they do, us Twins fans should be in for one hell of a ride this next decade. Unfortunately, its a long shot that old guys like me and others here will still be around 17 years from now to know whether or not Kep gets that call.
  21. Thanks for reminding me of that. Perhaps whatever the restriction was for caused him to not play well while waiting for the axe to fall.
  22. Does anyone know how long the suspension is and what it was for? All the top prospects who played, except Alcala, had really nice days. Great seeing Kirilloff and Javier included. Hopefully, they will stay healthy and get back on track as the summer plays on. Torreyes was supposed to battle for a utility job this spring. When he went to Rochester, his hitting was terrible before going on the IL. Was he battling thru injuries while playing which effected his play? While watching the game yesterday, they showed the bullpen when Thorpe was going thru some type of stretching routine. Looked like some type of bird prancing around the bullpen. If anyone saw it, is this something other pitchers do? Or is it strictly an Aussie thing?
  23. Could this be the game that Sano get's his swagger back? Please!!!!!
  24. Like you indicated, I have been of the opinion that the Twins have been lucky this year and haven't had a lot of injuries. But I started thinking about it the other day and have changed my opinion. Going around the diamond, Mitch Garver had a stint on the IL of a couple weeks, or was it longer? Although not a first baseman, Nellie Cruz also was on the IL for more than a couple weeks. Adrianza and Gonalez have been on the IL for the past week or so and Buxton is now past his 10 days. If I haven't missed anyone that's five of 12 or 13 players with enough time off to be sent to the IL. And that doesn't include the biggest loss, Miguel Sano. We keep forgetting about him because his injury is from the opening of spring training, but he missed about the first two months of the season. So half of the position players have been on the IL. Not the same as having three or four starters out for a long time, but still significant. Perhaps the wins and the replacements playing so well has clouded our memory...it certainly did for me.
