  1. Little bit of an oops on my part. I thought this was about Gibson.
  2. How about judging him by the last 9 1/2 months, dating back to the All Star Break of 2015? That's roughly 40-45 starts and I would peg his ERA in those games at about 5.5 without actually doing the math.
  3. March/April is one of his worst months. He has a career 5.76 ERA and a career .816 opponent's OPS. However, his actual worst month is August (5.91, .853) , so that kinda shoots that theory to pieces As for the notion that he might be better as a reliever, some have suggested it, his worst inning is the first inning (.810 OPS) other than the 9th, in which he has pitched just once in his career. Also, the second time he faces hitters in a game his OPS is .827. That sounds like it might support an argument for the pen. But then you look at the first time through and it is .719. That's still not very good. To me it comes down to him simply being unable to execute the pitches he needs to make. He KNOWS he has to keep the ball down to have any chance. He just. can't. do it. Not consistently anyway. I'm looking back at his game log from 2015 because it is undeniable that he was consistently terrible in 2016. He had a smattering of good starts, but by and large 2016 was a disaster for him. He was pretty bad in the second half of 2015. From July 21 to the end of the year, Gibson made 14 starts. He failed to complete 6 innings in half of them. He gave up 5 earned runs or more in 5 of them. His ERA coming into July 21 was an excellent 2.85. By the end of the season it was 3.84, up a full run. So, my Minnesota High School Math skills are saying that's 9 1/2 months of largely terrible pitching by Gibson covering more than 40 starts. How much more do his defenders need to see before they are ready to cut bait? The definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting a different result. Allowing Gibson to continue to start and expecting him to do well is therefore insane.
  4. Gimenez only got one out. But he probably should have started the 9th. I think the next pitcher transaction is Pressly. DL or AAA. Something needs to happen. 6 extra base hits, including 3 HR over his last 4 outings, covering less than 4 IP. Something is wrong. It reminds me of what happened to Trevor May last year. And we know where he is now.
  5. They technically "only" have a 12 man staff. Unless you count Gimenez. But they still have 8 relievers.
  6. But they continue to do a very poor job at developing players. This is where Falvey and Levine need to make an impact.
  7. The 40 man move could still be Adrianza.
  8. He's out of options. So after his rehab is over (there are actually rules about the maximum time it can last) the Twins will have to either activate him to the 25 man roster or DFA him. If they activate him, they pretty much have to DFA Danny Santana because having Santzna, Adrianza AND Escobar on your bench would be stilupid. Edit. Wow. Sorry about my typing skills tonight.
  9. It could very easily be Friday for all 3.
  10. No one is going to confuse him with Dennis Eckersley. But 3 HR and 3 doubles in his last 4 outings. He's also not THAT bad. We saw this with May last year. He went on the DL a month later. Never pitched well after that and now TJS this year.
  11. I think a transaction involving Pressly is more likely. Perhaps DL. Perhaps AAA. But something is definitely not right with him.
  12. Should have had Gimenez start the 9th.
  13. Another big fly from Pressly. Pressly isn't a great pitcher. But he isn't as bad as he has been recently. I still think there is likely something physically wrong with him.
  14. Some reason to tap Wheeler over Tepesch?
  15. I actually don't believe that is the case. I saw something, somewhere, that said he actually had two remaining. Edit: I remember. It was mlb trade rumors. They had a list of everyone on the 40 man who was out of options with less than 5 years service time. For the Twins that was Tonkin, Escobar, Adrianza, Grossman, Polanco and Danny Santana.
  16. It can be that hard to acquire a replacement level 5 starter from someone's AAA team. I thought Gibson should have been non-tendered last fall. He is simply unable to execute pitches consistently and has been for his last 35-40 starts. That's enough of a sample size for me. Maybe he would be better in the pen. I don't personally believe he would be. And there is absolutely no guarantee his arm would even be able to handle the very different challenge of being a reliever.
  17. Rortvedt sure reacted like it was a ball in play. If he had heard contact he probably wouldn't have started chasing after it.
  18. It wouldn't be surprising if Melotakis got sent down a level for a couple weeks for that nonsense. He clearly needs to learn what it means to be a professional. He isn't in junior high. His manager and the Twins brass needs to make that extremely clear to him.
  19. I don't think players suspended only a handful of games (I don't see Sano getting more than 2-3 games) come off the roster unless the rule has changed recently. That's part of the penalty. As for the 40 man move, when Adrianza is done with his rehab stint, the Twins will either have to active him to the 25 man roster or DFA him. The Twins aren't going to keep Escobar, Adrianza AND Danny Santana on the active roster. That would be beyond dumb. So someone is going to be DFA. Adrianza is most likely and odds are he will clear waivers just fine.
  20. Chargois has only made one appearance since the start of the season. It could be Melotakis, but he's never pitched above AA. If they add someone not on the 40 man, I would think maybe Trevor Hildenberger would get a shot. The Twins have an automatic move off the 40 man involving Ehire Adrianza. The Twins could call up two position players until a 5th starter is needed. If that is the case, most likely Vargas and Palka. Especially with Sano facing a possible suspension.
  21. Dick and Torii kinda mentioned that Haley has a bit of an unusual delivery that hides the ball well. It makes his fastball seem "sneaky fast".
  22. Is there some reason why no one thinks Vargas should be called up? Of anyone in AAA he clearly has the most upside.
