  1. Maybe the Twins will win by forefeit if the Tigers run out of players.
  2. Buxton has to sink or swim at the MLB level. There is nothing for him at AAA. If the Twins are still in contention in June I might change my mind. You can't lose games because he is taking non-professional at bats.
  3. The logical conclusion would be that Melo was chirping from the dugout, likely after one of Clemens' walks.
  4. Sell high on Hector? I would think the Giants have to be looking for a fill in for Bumgarner.
  5. I don't agree with that at all. He ranged several steps to the third base side. The ball was simply out of his range. Escobar isn't quicker than Polanco.
  6. Makes me think of Dairy Queen. I like ice cream.
  7. The fact that catchers get injured only increases the chances that Garver comes up some time this year. I don't think it is at all likely that JR Murphy gets called up. It's far more likely he gets DFA to make room for someone else on the 40 man at some point.
  8. Which would be considered a low total for Cabrera. It would be the lowest he's had in a full season in his career.
  9. It's funny looking at the lineups for tonight side by side. Or sad, I guess. The Tigers have 3 guys with batting averages under .170. 4 more under .220. The best the Tigers have is Castellano's .242 and Cabrera's .226. Not surprisingly, Tigers have more HR (14) in their lineup than the Twins (10). But BOTH cleanup hitters are hitting in the low .200 range with 0 HR and 6 RBI. Someone call STATS, inc. When was the last time two teams playing each other had 0 HR from their # 4 hitter in the 3rd week of the season? Looking at the head to heads, I see no real advantage. No Twin with substantial AB vs Verlander has hit him. And only James McCann has done much against Santiago. Even Miggy has just 4 RBI in 25 career AB.
  10. Guess who is back in the clean up spot?
  11. I don't think the Twins will be relevant once they start playing better teams - especially outside the division. It's pretty clear that the Royals are dogs and that the Sox aren't much better. Between those two and the Twins any one of them could be in the cellar. However, because all 3 are so bad, it's unlikely any ONE of them loses 100 because they are pretty close to equally bad IMO. When they play each other, someone has to win.
  12. Then you release someone. The Twins are keeping Vielma in AA so Tommy Field, Leonardo Reginatto, Niko Goodrum and Bengie Gonzalez can play? Really? No one is saying Vielma is a budding superstar. But everyone thinks he has a MLB glove RIGHT NOW. He probably won't ever be more than a utility infielder. You know what? That's a position every team needs.
  13. I think what must be done is a fire lit under the player development staff. IMO, the problem isn't on draft day, as some have suggested. First round picks bust out in baseball all the time. It's a far bigger crap shoot than the NFL and especially the NBA. These guys that the Twins are drafting early have talent. But the development staff (primarily minor league coaches and instructors) aren't getting that talent to come out at the MLB level. It's a problem that was ignored for far too long under the old regime. I am hoping that is where Levine and Falvey make their mark. Teams that win consistently, especially in smaller markets, are able to take draft picks and groom them. Take the Cardinals as an example. I believe they have 3 guys on their current roster who were drafted in round 10 or later. That's an example of some minor league coach seeing a specific skill set from a guy early in his pro career. And then honing that skill to make an "organization filler" into a MLB contributor. That's player development. It is something the Twins have been terrible at for years.
  14. As I said, Vielma is the Twins call up if an infielder gets hurt (other than first of course). Facing guys who have been around is exactly what he needs to be doing. He's already hitting far better than anyone expects him to. If Melotakis is eventually going to pitch for the Twins he is going to have to pitch in cold weather in April. He probably should get used to it.
  15. A "couple bad pitches" doesn't lead to FIVE extra base hits. Trevor May last year was cruising along and then all of a sudden had two or three horrid outings. Then he lands on the DL. 3 consecutive poor outings is something to take notice of. Finding out if his arm is okay. That might be something someone should ask.
  16. It's more than a couple bad pitches. Pressly has allowed 5 extra base hits in his last 3 outings.
  17. I'm actually quite relieved to hear that Wells is 6'1". The list of successful MLB pitchers under 5'10" is neither long nor distinguished. I was worried that a body that small would be susceptible to injury because of a lack of leg drive in the delivery.
  18. I can think of at least two guys that are at a level lower than where they should be. Mason Melotakis and Engelb Vielma should have started 2017 in AAA. Melotakis is 25. He was in AA all of last year after missing 2015. He also had pitched in AA in 2014. He's more than proven he can get AA hitters out. It's time for the next step. Vielma will be only be 23 in a couple months, so his being in AA isn't as eggregious. He had his best year at the plate of his pro career last year in AA. Besides, it's his glove that will get him to the MLB level. Everybody knows that. As the only infielder on the 40 man roster who isn't on the 25 man roster, he's going to be the guy called up if someone gets hurt. So, wouldn't it make sense for him to see better pitching at AAA?
  19. Pretty sure Jorge Polanco would be welcomed on pretty much any mlb team. Frankly, so would Escobar. He's a quality role player.
  20. Pressly is 28. He's got 4 full seasons under his belt at the MLB level.
  21. I could very easily see both being DFA and JB Shuck taking over as a reserve OFer. Sano and Polanco are doing fine defensively so far. Escobar as the only reserve infielder isn't an issue IMO. Vielma is on the 40 man in case of injury. Adrianza might clear waivers and stick around. Leonardo Reginatto is around if things get desperate.
  22. Pressly could be suffering the effects of being overworked in the first half of last year. It wouldn't surprise me if he lands on the DL.
  23. In the very near future, the Twins will be forced to move a player off the 40 man - more than likely 2. Ehire Adrianza is expected to start a rehab assignment this weekend. When that time is up, the Twins will either have to activate him to the 25 man roster or DFA him, assuming he doesn't further injure himself. If they activate him, obviously someone has to come off the 25 man roster. The only moderately logical position player is Danny Santana, who would also have to be DFA, since he is out of options. Either way, it's a subtraction from the 40 man roster. At some point, most likely within the next week, the Twins will drop down to 12 pitchers. The most probable candidates to be removed are Justin Haley and Michael Tonkin since they are sort of in a redundant role as long relievers. Either way again, it's a removal from the 40 man roster. Although, the way Pressly has pitched his last couple times, he may be adding himself to that mix. He could be hurt, though. It's not unusual to see a guy who was overworked as hard as Pressly was last year (especially in the first half) to have injury problems the following season.
  24. Everyone calling for Park understands that he is currently on the DL, right? He's not expected back for about a week or more.
