  1. What exactly is the "bright spot" for Castro? His .212 batting average or plays like his two run passed ball on Sunday? Just curious.
  2. If anyone could sustain it, Byron would be the guy. I certainly think a BABIP of .350 is easily sustainable with his speed.
  3. Lineups that continue to defy logic. Vargas AFTER Castro? Really? Flip Kepler and Polanco. Flip Vargas and Mauer. That would make more sense. Of course, that would put 4 lefties in a row.
  4. Certainly not a relatively paltry amount like $750 K.
  5. I think you are greatly overestimating what Polanco would net in return first of all. No way he nets a MLB ready starter. He rates a project like Lachlan Wells, at BEST. Second, Vielma is probably never going to be a starter at the MLB level. His ceiling is more likely utility infielder. Gordon probably will make it as a starter someday. But he's far from certain. Offensively and defensively. He profiles similar to Polanco in that he does a lot of things well, but there is nothing he excels at. Polanco is more advanced though. By the time he was Gordon's current age, he already had a cup of coffee at the MLB level.
  6. Like I said, no problem with what Boyd did. Because he did it the right way. No problem even with Sano missing a game. But McCann should too. His actions were unwarranted. McCann may not have intentionally put his glove in Sano's face, but he definitely intentionally initiated contact. He didn't need to.
  7. Yeah, if I am not mistaken the homerun by Granderson was the only HIT by a lefty last year. It sucks for this year, but O'Rourke will likely be fine. Loogy's last forever.
  8. Haley's pitch accidentally touched Jones' face. It wasn't purposeful. Yet, Tigers players are enraged. That door swings both ways sir. McCann escalated. Nothing you can say will convince me otherwise. That is why he appealed. That is exactly the point the Twins will make.
  9. Revere had over 1000 PA when he was traded. Polanco has 360. Try again.
  10. I actually have no problem with what Boyd did. He didn't actually hit Sano first of all. He was sending a message. And if the pitch had hit Sano, it was exactly where it should have been. Hip high. BIG problem with someone intentionally throwing at the head. If the Tigers seriously think that is what Haley did, they are clueless. Sano probably deserves one game for what he did, but McCann deserves at least that much. The benches cleared because of what McCann did. Joe Torre chose to ignore that.
  11. Sano didn't really do anything but bark a little. He didn't shove McCann until McCann hit him in the face with his glove. THAT is when the situation escalated. Was he supposed to just take that? Would you??? That is why McCann should also have been suspended. HE is the one who escalated the minute he laid hands on Sano. That is NOT his job. Sano wasn't charging the mound. There was no physical threat to his pitcher. McCann chose to escalate a verbal confrontation into a physical one.
  12. Pretty sure he still collects the MLB paycheck. Guys that have hit arbitration usually don't have minor league clauses in their contracts.
  13. If Haley had shown evidence that control was a problem, you might have an argument. Anyone can have one get away. Haley has only walked 3 in 13 IP. That's hardly evidence that he can't control his pitches consistently.
  14. Based solely on anecdotal observation (so take it for what it is worth), the most likely decision involving a borderline call is a base hit instead of an error. It seems to me that I find myself saying "that should be an error" far more often than "that should be a hit".
  15. Sure about that? Dozier's WAR last year wasn't the best in the American League. Nor was it second. That's my point. There are a LOT of great offensive second basemen in the league right now. The Twins are trying to trade a commodity for which there is little demand.
  16. One of the biggest obstacles in getting high value for Dozier is the state of second baseman in the league. Fifteen second baseman hit 20 or more HR last year. So, that immediately cuts potential destinations in half. How many of the remaining teams expect to contend in 2017? How many of them have pitching to spare? The Twins were never going to "hoodwink" some team's GM into believing that Dozier was going to all of a sudden be a perennial 40 HR guy. Most GMs aren't that gullible. The league sees him as a 20-25 HR, 15-20 SB, .250 hitter that plays very good defense, period.
  17. Who is still considerably short of even a full year of service time. Guys like that rarely get traded either because they are still too big of a risk. It really is not much different than trading a top prospect. You are banking on future results based on limited history. The return just won't be there. I don't know what the Twins would get for Dozier right now, but I guarantee they would get far less for Polanco.
  18. I think Romero will be. Gonsalves might be if injuries don't slow him down. He lacks elite stuff, but there is something to be said about a guy that can put up elite numbers without elite stuff. Brad Radke never lit up anyone's radar gun. Some guys just know how to pitch. A darkhorse might be Lachlan Wells. His first two starts for Fort Myers were very good. Last one, not so much. But he was very good in Cedar Rapids last year. I actually saw one of his starts in person. He maintained low 90s velocity through 8 IP. He might be up in 4 years, but I don't know if he'll be a 3 or higher then, or ever. Just too far away to project.
  19. This. You certainly aren't going to get "high upside" starting pitching for him. He's way too much of an unknown.
  20. Kind of hard to win without a shortstop too. Berrios will be up no later than May 6. It's entirely possible he comes up Friday for Gibson. Is pitching a concern? Obviously. For better or worse, Hughes isn't going anywhere. I think he can still give the team 6-7 innings of decent pitching every 5th day. It's up to the Twins if Ervin is here until at least 2019. I'm on the fence on that one. I guess it depends on what offers come across. If the Twins get a Viola-esque offer, I think they need to take it. Santiago is also pretty much their call as to if he stays or goes. I guess I have a lot more confidence that Falvey and Levine will handle it (short term and long term) than I would have with Terry Ryan in charge. I am pretty sure they consider 2017 an evaluation year. I think there will be more changes this offseason.
  21. Not in this forum that I am aware of. If some team blew me away with a trade offer, I would certainly listen. For sure he needs to be traded or resigned before the end of July. Given how poorly he did last year, I would personally be a little gun shy about extending him. The Hughes contract would be on my mind, although Santiago's body of work is considerably better and he's considerably younger. But for his career he's been pretty good and pretty consistent.
  22. Why would you trade Polanco? He's still under team control for 5 years AFTER this year. Are you really convinced that Gordon will A) stick at SS? hit enough to contribute at the MLB level? Why not let it play out? Why trade a 23 year old? That's silly.
  23. As I said on the previous page, somehow I had the idea the pitcher being discussed was Gibson. My bad.
  24. And then he limited the damage and kept the game in reach. Remind you of Gibson? Didn't think so. Gibson has not been good for a year and a half. At least Hughes has the excuse of missing almost all of last year. I think Hughes can still be a serviceable innings eater with an ERA in the upper 4 range. Gibson is more like 5.25 or higher and he'll never pitch deep into games because he nibbles.
  25. Hughes has already lasted longer than Gibson did yesterday. It's Hughes that isn't going anywhere. He's under contract for two more years. I doubt they pay him $13 mil to be the mop up man.
