  1. The Twins aren't going to find out if it works in the majors if Berrios doesn't pitch in the majors. Again, the company line in March was that he needed to get stretched out. That was obviously baloney. Why believe them now?
  2. Do they not disprove your argument? So, what is your rebuttal from the company line?
  3. He's on the DL. I'm not even sure the CBA would allow him to voluntarily retire.
  4. According to his game log, he has 84 strikes looking and just 51 swinging. Still buying?
  5. Huh. I knew Ullger was primarily a first baseman and that 1981 was his third season at AA. I actually never looked up how many games he played at a particular position. But it was actually something called Lance Hallberg who was the primary first baseman for Orlando in 1981. Also in his 3rd season at AA. Also another nobody. Also someone who probably should have been released so Hrbek could play at AA in the second half of 1981 in AA. The Minnesota Twins. 4 decades of keeping 25 year olds around to play in AA.
  6. I'm not sure I'm buying the company line. I'm peering at his game logs and he's throwing roughly 2/3 of his pitches for strikes. He's walked 8 in 35 IP. I understand there is a difference between command and control. A lot of pitchers can throw the ball over the strike zone. The good ones throw it exactly where they want to throw it. But, if he was not commanding his pitches, wouldn't hitters be hitting them? They are not. By that same logic, how does Gibson have a spot in the rotation? He's lacked command of his fastball for almost two years now.
  7. Well, there's garden variety retirement and injury retirement. If Perkins retires while he is on the DL it is pretty clear that it is injury related. Edit: Just looked up transactions for the Mets, he "voluntarily" retired in December of 2015. As I said, that's entirely different.
  8. Seeing as 2016 was the last year of Cuddyer's contract, no. But, I'm sure they were last year. I bet if you look at transactions from last march, you will see Cuddyer being placed on 60 day DL. Twins paid Puckett when he was forced to retire. He was still under contract through 1997 I believe.
  9. If he retires because of injury, he still gets paid.
  10. His current OPS ranks in the top 15 in the league. That's pretty good for a CFer. Guess he is playing RF too. But still more time in CF so far. He also has 6 assists already. He had 6 all of last year.
  11. Didn't he play 3 games with the Miracle prior to moving up to Rochester?
  12. Gibson has been in steep decline since the 2015 all star game, for which he may have been a legitimate snub. Since then he has an ERA well north of 5. That sample size represents 40% of his career.
  13. So there is a good chance that Saturday's rain out cost Ervin pitcher of the month. I still remember from 1991 until like July or August of 1992, every AL pitcher of the month was either a Twin or Roger Clemens. Erickson, Morris, Tapani, Bill Krueger, John Smiley and I think Aguilera all won it once in that span. Clemens did it like 4 or 5 times.
  14. The only reason Hrbek was in A ball all of 1981 is because Scott Ullger was stuck at AA for 3 years.
  15. Really? In what way? Are you seriously suggesting that the hitters in AAA aren't better than hitters in AA? AAA is filled with guys that have actually been at the MLB level and some who will still get there. My guess is that 60% of AAA hitters either have been at the MLB level or will be. At AA, I'd peg that at 35-40% at BEST. Even most of the hitters the Twins have at AA are nothing more than org filler. The Lookouts have Gordon and Wade with MLB full time upside. Even Vielma projects as a future utility player. The rest are not very good and actually pretty old for AA. They have 8 position players that will be at least 25 within the next month. 5 of the Twins starting position players are 25 or younger.
  16. Bert started broadcasting 15-20 years ago. 10 years after retiring. He stumbles. Being on live television for 3-4 hours is an extremely difficult job.
  17. He's holding opposing batters to .128 batting average. He's allowed 2 singles since April 14th. Care to explain how that isn't "backing it up"? What if he strikes out the side tonight? He'll have 11 K in 13 IP. Would that make you happy? Sample size. It matters. His sample size in 2016 was sufficient to prove he was ready for AAA. That's where he should have been. That is where he belongs now. Nothing you can type will convince me otherwise.
  18. You mean like an entire season? You know, like 2016? And no, I don't think 5 innings without a strikeout is overly concerning. Not when a guy has shown that he can strikeout AA hitters for over 50 IP.
  19. I think you're seeing sample size come into play a little. He started out getting a lot of strikeouts this season. However, he hasn't recorded a single strikeout in his last 4 outings, covering 5 IP. Last year at AA, his K per 9 was over 11. Melotakis has been in AA since mid 2014, missing one season with an injury. He's more than proven he is ready for the next step. He should have started this season in AAA.
  20. Has something about the FSL changed in general? It used to be DOMINATED by pitchers. Homeruns were rare. I was looking to see how Murphy stacked up and I noticed there are already 5 guys with at least 6 HR in the FSL. To put that in perspective, Justin Morneau hit 4 HR in 53 games there in 2001. And that was considered a lot.
  21. Perhaps I should rephrase then: There is NO WAY the TWINS eat that much salary. I think the largest salary they have eaten is $ 2 or 3 mil to Mike Lamb. On a side note, can someone with the power vested in them change this thread name to a more generic "Twins roster moves discussion" or something like that?
  22. Hughes isn't going anywhere. No one eats a $35 mil contract.
  23. Melotakis and Vielma should have started the season in AAA, not AA. Perhaps is Melo had started the season in AAA, he would be ready for the MLB level now. And I didn't really say that there was anyone worthy of a call up at this point either. Ask Mike Sixel.
  24. That certainly doesn't fit their history. Texas and especially Cleveland have gotten a lot of production from their minor league systems. Perhaps the reality is that they are not impressed by what is in the minors for this organization and are buying time to draft the players they want and get them developed the way they want them developed.
