  1. Which says more about the sorry state of pitching in MLB than anything else.
  2. Rincon was on roids for awhile too. And Romero was suspected, but smart enough not to get caught.
  3. You would have to ask Derek Falvey that question. As for why retreads: to buy time to evaluate those prospects first hand. The Twins simply didn't have enough "young guys" ready to fill a MLB bullpen at the start of the year. They still don't.
  4. Logically, you would start Santana on Friday. Reason # 1 is you want your ace to start the tone setting first game of the series. Reason #2 is that since Santana is more likely to have a good start (and a long one) it would put less pressure on the pen and more availability for the rest of the series. Reason # 3 is developmental. The biggest reason I have been so steadfast in calling for Berrios is for him to have a front row seat while Ervin goes about his business. He had a stinker today. But he has been without question the best starter in the AL since last June. Maybe Berrios watches Santana pitch and it becomes a friendly competition. That is what happened in the first half of 1991 with Morris and Erickson.
  5. I don't happen to agree with that statement. I don't think you abandon the plan you made over the course of 6 months because of a few lucky breaks that put you a couple games above .500 after 4 weeks, playing some of the worst teams in the league. If the Twins are above .500 in July, then maybe you change your plan.
  6. Chargois and Reed are hurt. Wimmers and Wheeler are doing awful at AAA.
  7. I would guess Haley is going back to the DL. Hildenberger or Baxendale are likely next up.
  8. I never believed this team had a chance to contend anyway. So, your point is moot as far as I am concerned.
  9. lol, at the Twins analysts saying Santana had bad command today. Ironic. Maybe there is no such thing as perfect command. Maybe a guy's command is simply what it is.
  10. You want to be relatively sure the guy coming up actually has a chance at getting MLB hitters out, right? IMO that doesn't happen at AA. I would bet 2/3 of the hitters in AA right now NEVER reach the majors. While 2/3 in AAA for sure will. Melotakis should have started 2017 at AAA IMO. Burdi probably Could move up too. I would like to see them at AAA for a MINIMUM of two months before bringing them up. But, that's me.
  11. And they get to face Santiago. His hot start will be long forgotten after Tuesday I suspect.
  12. Prior to facing the Twins, the Sox were one of the worst hitting teams in the league.
  13. Falvey and Levine are disproving an old pro sports axiom regarding poor performing teams. They always say "It's easier to fire the coach/manager than the players." Falvey and Levine have essentially fired 3 players in the last 3 days. And I would expect to see more before the end of May.
  14. They did make additions. Belisle, Breslow and Haley. Problem is they are terrible.
  15. Level of competition. Not surprised at all.
  16. Yeah, because the guys in AAA are so much better.
  17. I'm not saying Kintzler is better. But "the book" says you take your shot with who is supposed to be your top guy. There was never going to be a save situation.
  18. I wonder how much of an idiot the Sox manager is. He would have to be dumb as a post to bring Kimbrel back for the 9th.
  19. We could use an ANY out pitcher in the bullpen.
  20. I can't wait for Paul to explain why he didn't use his closer in the 9th in a one run game with the muscle due up. Kintzler didn't pitch yesterday. Tomorrow is an off day. Belisle is all smoke and mirrors. What are you saving him for?
  21. They are also both in AA. Perhaps I should have said "the most advanced prospects" are hurt.
  22. I would call it rock solid evidence that the primary bullpen prospects are on the DL.
  23. Pressly? Wouldn't be a surprise given the workload he had last year, especially in the first half. Breslow? He hasn't been good for years. Why would he be good now?
  24. The Gibson decision probably should have been made last fall as well.
  25. Would be nicer if some of those prospects were healthy. Wouldn't surprise me if the Twins brought up a position player tomorrow. How many pitchers do they need for one game with Ervin starting? Zach Granite maybe if they think he is ready.
