  1. Looks like he's had problem throwing strikes his entire career. Pass.
  2. It probably is a product of deception. That doesn't mean it won't play at the MLB level.
  3. You say that like it's a bad thing. I'd be pretty ecstatic if Hildenberger had a career like Bradford's or Neshek's. Hildenberger is already 26. He's only been in AAA for a couple months but that is largely because he's been slow-tracked at every step. He was in low A too long in 2015 and was in AA too long last year. At every step, his numbers have been solid to eye popping. I don't think he needs any additional seasoning. He's as ready as he's ever going to be IMO.
  4. The bottom line for me is that the Twins aren't going to contend for anything with essentially a three man bullpen. Especially when those three are Kintzler, Rogers and Duffey. All 3 are serviceable to solid MLB relievers, but they are not bullpen stoppers by any stretch of the imagination.
  5. Maybe they would take Wilk for him. lol
  6. I know he hasn't done it in awhile, but I always like listening to Tom Kelly. He's not a realistic candidate for anything more than a handful of games because of his monotone, almost hypnotic delivery. But, I always feel smarter after listening to him. Especially with regards to game strategy. The others, as former players, really don't bring that skill to the table.
  7. The top of a pile of junk is still junk. Wheeler hasn't pitched at the mlb level yet. So, no reason to dismiss him yet. I wouldn't mind seeing him replace GIbson. I've seen more than enough of Gibson as a starter. Boshers really hasn't pitched much at the mlb level either. I don't know if he would be more effective than Breslow or not. He was far better than Breslow was in 2016.
  8. Maybe a GM who has amnesia and thinks this is 2015?
  9. Except that Breslow isn't getting lefties out. A .310 obp isn't good for a guy who is supposed to specialize in getting lefties out. This isn't a new development. Breslow's obp vs lefties: 2016: .423 2015: .351 2014: .381 2013: .304 The only thing that's really different is that instead of LHB hitting their way on against Breslow, he's now putting them on with walks. At the end of the day though, he still isn't getting them out. That's kind of a key element of LOOGY. One of those "O's" is supposed to stand for OUT.
  10. The reality is that the bullpen is the area that is trending most poorly right now.
  11. I don't think this is an exaggeration at all. Is there really anybody out there you would expect to improve with more experience? Rogers. MAYBE. But even he is pitching as well as I think he is ever going to pitch. I don't think Pressly needs more experience either. He needs movement on his pitches. MLB hitters can hit a 97 MPH straight fastball. And they are. 9 extra base hits in 18 IP.
  12. Not sure I'd use the term "fixes". Patches, perhaps. Deserving of a shot for Hilley and Melo certainly.
  13. Which makes him different than Breslow and Gibson? The point is that he was an experienced arm that could very easily been handed the 8th and 9th yesterday. He cleared waivers once, chances are pretty good he would clear again. Paul obviously had no intention of using Rucinski with ANY lead. He just doesn't seem to understand that there are consequences to overusing relievers. I said before that winning yesterday should have been the secondary goal. The primary goal should have been resting the pen. If Rucinski comes in in the 8th and somehow gives up 14 runs in 2 IP so be it IMO. Are we really concerned about his psyche going forward? Now, the Twins still have a short bullpen today and still lost yesterday. Molitor also flat out told Rucinski that he has no confidence in him. In that case, the Twins might as well DFA him since Molitor won't use him unless he literally has no choice. Good day at the office, Paul.
  14. Hildenberger remains an obvious call up option. Will his deceptive delivery play against MLB hitters? Don't know. But frankly he's earned a shot. If he hadn't thrown 2 2/3 IP on Saturday, he might have been called up yesterday. I would have no issues sending Pressly down and calling Hildenberger up. Among the candidates for removal from the 40 man are Tepesch, Rucinski and Haley. Although not sure they can "send back" Haley while he's on the DL. My guess is no, since it would effectively be an "outright" assignment.
  15. Breslow's walked 5 and struck out 9 in 18 IP. 4 of those walks were to LHB. You know, the guys he's supposed to be good at getting out. As a result, his obp vs lefties is actually higher than righties. That's not good. I would say Breslow hasn't been the trainwreck that Belisle and Pressly have been. Pretty good? Don't see it that way. I would say he is definitely not someone to use in high leverage situations. The problem is that is true of just about everyone down there. Duffey, Rogers and Kintzler have gotten the job done pretty consistently. But they can't keep up the workload they are being subjected to. Rogers has appeared in 24 of the team's 47 games. Kintzler 22. Too many. Duffey has a team leading 25 relief IP. That paces him to 80 or more. That's a lot IMO.
  16. Some reason why you didn't mention the extensive trial in LF he had during his rehab this year? #sarcasm
  17. In the case of the Twins, the "paying OT" refers to the inevitable problems associated with overusing relievers. Like putting them on the DL. Or paying a MLB salary to a guy in AAA.
  18. You're missing the point. My manager said they could help and I didn't let them even try until after the rush was over. So, we paid them to do nothing and had to pay OT to someone else.
  19. In a way, they did have an experienced option. Michael Tonkin is still in AAA. He's struck out 10 in 7 2/3 IP. Of course, he's also walked 4 and given up a HR already.
  20. I work in a restaurant. Let's say my manager tells me he has hired two new cooks. They are a little green, he says, but they can help out if it gets busy. It gets moderately busy. Instead of letting them help, I call in a guy who would get OT. The new guys basically stand there and watch. After the rush, I let them sweep and mop the floor. Think my boss will be happy with me?
  21. Melotakis is a marginal 26-28 year old.
  22. And if I'm Falvey, that is reason enough to fire Molitor. That is tantamount to insubordination.
  23. First of all, I don't think you can draw a straight line and say that because Rucinski gave up 3 in the 9th he would have been just as bad or worse in the 8th. In the 8th inning, the Astros were a beaten down team. Pressly walked the first guy and then almost killed Altuve. So, 2 on no one out and the Astros haven't even made contact yet. Point being maybe Rucinski doesn't walk Reddick or hit Altuve. Maybe one of them makes an out. Then who knows what might have happened. Second, it doesn't matter. Sure, you always want to win. But, IMO winning today's game was a secondary goal to resting the bullpen arms that needed it - which was basically everyone but Wheeler and Rucinski. The manager needs to understand that and manage the game accordingly.
  24. The only reliever used by Rochester today was Michael Tonkin. Just an fyi.
  25. No one said Rucinski was the second coming of Mariano Rivera. But, he did manage to pitch a full inning without giving up 5 runs. Ryan Pressly did 0 of those.
