  1. It will be interesting to see the lineups today, with Holland (a lefty) on the mound. Mauer has struggled to open the season and historically (3 for 17) against Holland. Will we see Gimenez at first base today?Does Jason Castro need a break filled in by Gimenez, and especially with a lefty on the mound? Would you dare take him out after going 3 for 6 with 6 walks in the opening series? Castro is also 4 for 12 with one homerun lifetime against Holland.Do you start Escobar at short today, given that a lefty is on the mound, and Escobar went 2 for 4 with 4 RBI on Wednesday? If so, then what to do with Jorge Polanco who has started the season 4 for 6 with 3 RBI, 2 walks, and no strikeouts?Grossman hit lefties great last year (.344 BA, .994 OPS) but is off to a hitless start this year. Do you start him again today with a lefty on the mound? Or, do you DH Sano, giving Escobar or Gimenez the start at 3B?This morning on 93X, Randy Shaver predicted Dozier would hit a homerun off of Holland. I like the call.I can't find the exact quote, but Molitor said yesterday he plans to keep Buxton batting third for now
  2. I still have my piranha w/ Twins cap promotional giveaway sitting at my desk. And I remember one of the 'peskiest' things Ozzie used to comment about the Twins lineup was their ability to foul pitches and take long at bats (one of Punto's specialties). I don't see anyone in our 2017 lineup doing that.
  3. Figured we'd see D-San today. Didn't know where he'd end up, though. Kyle Gibson's tweaked delivery and his batter v. pitcher matchups with KC will be the thing to watch today. Lots of AB's for KC batters against Gibson, with some very polarized numbers: Cain: 3 for 23 (.130)Perez: 3 for 25 (.120)Escobar: 11 for 32 (.344)Gordon: 10 for 28 (.357)Gibson has only given up 1 homerun to the active KC lineup (Alex Gordon) in 174 combined AB's
  4. Chris Gimenez, utility player? Bye bye D-San!
  5. Duffey pitched today so I'd assume they would save Haley for long relief tomorrow, if needed.
  6. Castro must be really hungry for chips and walkamole.
  7. Escobar has excellent career numbers against Kennedy. Molitor may also be making a 'Game 2 statement' as to the importance and role of Escobar on the team this year?
  8. Twins matchups against Ian Kennedy: Escobar is 6 for 14 against Kennedy, which may have factored into the decision to start Eduardo Escobar at SS.Dozier has 2 career HR against Kennedy in 15 ABMauer is only 2 for 14 (.143) lifetime against KennedyEddie Rosario is 4 for 8 (.500) lifetime against KennedyI think between some of these nice splits, and Santiago pitching, we might have a high-scoring affair today.
  9. The new five-star catch rating has to do with time available to make the catch, and distance required to get to the ball. So like you said, the ball where he broke the wrong way and slipped, but recovered to catch the ball with a dive, I heard yesterday that this play had a 98% 'catch probability.' So, not a 5-star play (a 1-star play in fact). The one that we would agree was the best catch, had a 24% catch probability. I think it needs to be under 25% to be a 5-star catch. I think these statistics will be tweaked in the future as they are brand new, but it's interesting and helpful nonetheless.
  10. It's a lot of pressure for the young man, but Buxton has the talent to be the heart and soul for this Twins roster within the next few years theoretically sans Mauer and Dozier. Many will be quick to say that he was over-hyped for too long. I am constantly reminded of a young Torii Hunter with more talent, and the broadcast crew eluded to the same idea yesterday while Torii was visiting the booth. All I ask is that he stay healthy, and he'll grow into himself.
  11. Home attendance on pace for 3,208,815 (which would be less than 2010!). Kintzler on pace for 0 saves. Buxton on pace for 162 '5-star' catches. Team is on pace for 2 well-executed bunts.
  12. MVP: Buxton Pitcher of the Year: Ervin Santana Reliever of the Year: Belisle ROY: Mejia Sorry I guess I disagreed with all of yours!
  13. I'm fine with it because it allows Molitor to use Belisle and Kintzler again Wednesday if he wants. I was wondering yesterday whether, if we had another game Tuesday, Molitor would have opted to use lesser bullpen arms in the 8th and 9th being up 6 runs, which could have caused a terribly disappointing implosion.
  14. I generally don't like it either. But I guess we could think about the logic of the ideal game flow: 1) Dozier hit or walk 2) Dozier maybe steals. Grossman hit or walk. 3) Buxton Drives run(s) in. 4) Buxton steals. Joe drives him in or gets him over. 5) Sano sac fly or big fly 6-9) Meh against lefty Repeat.
  15. http://www.1500espn.com/twins-2/2017/04/twins-opening-day-lineup-buxton-mauer-sano-batting-3-4-5/ 1) Dozier 2) Grossman 3) Buxton 4) Mauer 5) Sano 6) Castro 7) Polanco 8) Kepler 9) Rosario
  16. Who kept saying that the weather was going to be gorgeous for the home opener? Oh yeah, that was me. On the radio this morning (93X) they were announcing the Twins lineup for home opener (and I was like, 'wow, already?') which they referenced the Star Tribune. I come online this morning and it turns out yesterday afternoon the Star Tribune put out projected lineups for the home opener. http://www.startribune.com/twins-kansas-city-projected-opening-day-lineups/417919003/ Twins 2B Brian Dozier 1B Joe Mauer CF Byron Buxton 3B Miguel Sano RF Max Kepler LF Eddie Rosario DH Robbie Grossman C Jason Castro SS Jorge Polanco RHP Ervin Santana Royals LF Alex Gordon 3B Mike Moustakas CF Lorenzo Cain 1B Eric Hosmer C Salvador Perez DH Brandon Moss RF Paulo Orlando SS Alcides Escobar 2B Raul Mondesi LHP Danny Duffy The positions are almost certainly right, but do we think we have that good of an idea on the lineup already?
  17. I'd increase the at-bats for Grossman, decrease the at bats for Park. Vargas has had some rough stints for the Twins, but I can't imagine him ever hitting as low as .216 over 200+ at bats. I'd peg him closer to .240-.250 but still having trouble finding his place on this roster. I hope at least one of the three can surprise us.
  18. TIBN said today during the exhibition game that he heard Slegers will be part of the rotation. I suspect Rucinski might be relieving, or they'll get starts for all 6.
  19. Relatively good news: Side strain http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/twins-jake-reed-leaves-game-with-side-injury/
  20. Only way I can listen at work! No radio reception in my office. And there are so many day games on weekdays, especially to start the season. Figured it was worth $20. And I can watch the evening games at home with Playstation Vue.
  21. Just FYI, though it doesn't really matter at this point, I think others said they couldn't find the broadcast on 96.3. I was listening to TIBN on MLB.com Gameday Audio.
  22. With 1 out left in the game, Jake Reed has some sort of discomfort or injury and waves in the pitching coach and trainer to take him out of the game. Hopefully it's not anything with his elbow or shoulder.
  23. From radio: Goodrum at AAA Rochester will be used as a super-utility type this year. Playing almost every day, but playing at many positions in both the infield and outfield.
  24. Buxton advanced from 2nd to 3rd on medium fly ball to LEFT field using his "world-class speed." Then scores later on sac fly.
