  1. Trust? Santana. Berrios has looked great, but the sample size is too small.
  2. Video of Bryan Sammons striking out 14 here: http://www.catamountsports.com/sports/m-basebl/recaps/033117aaa.html
  3. All I see on Bryan Sammons is a big-frame lefty who was projected to go around #350.
  4. Good question. I don't have much insight, but a quick review of some articles are describing how he once was projected as being average at catcher, expected to stick there, except he hasn't played much at catcher this year. So he profiled as a hit-first catcher, but wasn't catching much. That makes him a hit-first 1B or DH. And he's been awful offensively this year. So he's a struggling hitter with no position. I'd suspect he might drop to rounds 10-15 or worse.
  5. I also like that they picked a top Puerto Rico talent, given the young Puerto Rican talent currently on the Twin roster (Berrios, Rosario, Vargas). If De La Torre can make the big leagues, it's fair to assume at least one of those three would still be on the roster.
  6. If we exclude drafting/developing or buying an ace via FA market... As I've heard others state, though I don't have evidence to support, there's a notion that a speedy up-the-middle defender with an ability to hit, has a better chance of staying healthy than most pitchers, and therefore also makes them more tradeable in the future. Perhaps the Front Office is already making plans to trade for a guaranteed front-line starter in a couple years after our young position player talents develop. But alas, I'm just speculating and throwing Falvey and Levine a bone that they know what they're doing.
  7. Jorge's numbers have never popped, but whenever I check in on him, it seems he's turning in more quality starts than his peers. At this point, can't complain about that. His K-rate (32 in 74 1/3 innings) at AA last year was alarming, but has improved significantly this year. I think we've all gone a bit sour on some of our pitch-to-contact and 'groundball' pitchers in recent years giving up too many homeruns. Felix Jorge has a 0.63 HR/9 which equates to 14 HR / 200 innings. He's on the 40-man, so he should see time at least at Rochester, if not the Twins, this year. Hopefully he doesn't get blasted.
  8. So, Andy Wilkins' first game and gets a TD POD honor. Anything to make of his signing? Were they really that short on players, specifically first basemen?
  9. With all of the question marks regarding the injury potential surrounding prospect pitchers nowadays, I'm starting to think more and more that the top position player (Royce Lewis) might be a better option, then draft a higher quantity of high-ceiling pitchers later. Is there really such a thing as a high-floor pitcher anymore? That being said, I've realized as I'm typing this that our last top pick (Alex Kirilloff) was a position player and still needed TJ surgery. Ditto for our best current position player (Sano). Maybe they'd be best off setting aside some draft money to buy a horseshoe from Always Dreaming or a vault of rabbit's feet. On a related note, they should offer one of the players a draft bonus of $777,777. I see the #1 spot is slotted at $7,770,700. Just throw in an extra $7,077!
  10. A very good statistical comparison. Generally I would agree that they are fairly comparable players. A striking difference I will point out, though, is that Kepler had a minors career K% of 15%, while Yelich was at 21%. While both of them are at precisely 20.4% for their MLB career so far, Yelich has had 2363 plate appearances while Max has only had 673. Also the two of them have put up similar numbers, while Yelich has a huge MLB BABIP of .354 while Max is quite low at .275. In the long run, I'd place good money on Kepler being significantly better offensively. And despite Yelich winning a gold glove and the small sample size on Kepler, advanced defensive metrics on Fangraphs seem to give Kepler a slight advantage here as well.
  11. There's also something to be said for the fact that Greene seems to want to play for San Diego. Although he hasn't explicitly said he doesn't want to play for the Twins, it's clear enough that he doesn't want to play for the Twins. For a young player that will require as much development as Greene will, he will need to buy into the Twins development system. With all of the question marks at hand, I think I'd rather pick someone who has their heart in the right place, presuming the Twins feel there's another player of high enough quality.
  12. Thank you for the fabulous insight.
  13. Hadn't heard of Graterol before. Thanks for the video. Unless he's going at much less than 100%, that's one of the shortest pitching strides I've seen. That could lead to ongoing injury issues. Too bad for the Twins farm that there's so many injuries on this portion of the list!
  14. The Twins went after Ian Kennedy previously, I think around the time they signed Santana and Hughes. He's a decent candidate. Beyond that, I don't think we are willing to afford the prospect return required for any of those other pitchers. I think if we remain in contention, we're much more likely to look for a late-inning right-handed bullpen arm.
  15. His batting average is guaranteed to regress at his current K%, but gotta love the way he is striking the ball and standing up to the plate with confidence when runners are on base. There's something to be said for a player who sees runners on base and expects himself to knock them in every time (and I suppose it helps to execute too). Bring back the "Smell 'em" campaign! And seriously, he just turned 24? Just stay healthy, big guy.
  16. Just curious why Hildenberger, two-time Twins Daily Minor League Relief Pitcher of the Year and "nearly ready," is only ranked at #35? Not at all trying to bash the rankings, but wondering if there's maybe something in his scouting report which shows that his stuff might not play so well at the big leagues? Also aside from the obvious differences in the delivery, anyone have thoughts on his comparison to the stuff of Pat Neshek (most recent Twins side-armer)?
  17. I know Berrios has had two amazing starts to begin his year at the MLB level, but say he hadn't? Either way, this injury to Hughes should lock Berrios into the major league rotation the rest of the year.
  18. That 'slurve' was filthy, as appeared to be his 2-seam fastball. And in fairly cold weather, nonetheless. I don't remember Berrios throwing a breaking ball like that before. The slider he threw during the WBC looked much more traditional. If he can keep locating pitches, he could be fantastic this year.
  19. Wright doesn't look very balanced and controlled on the mound for someone who throws in the low 90's. He's likely going to need to develop a change-up to be a successful right-handed starting pitcher. Aside from the two stellar recent starts, I'm just not seeing the upside here.
  20. I'd define an ace as a showstopper, a losing streak stopper, and and innings eater; a pitcher who pitches above and beyond the norm in the league. Instead of saying there should be XX number of aces, I would do some kind of statistical plot showing which pitchers are outliers from the glut of mediocre pitchers. I can't find anything like this at the moment, but it's safe to say that Santana has been an Ace this year.
  21. Unfortunately there's just not much room at AAA for them right now, unless we start waiving/releasing more pitchers other than just Tonkin. It may take some injuries to get both Burdi and Melotakis up to AAA soon. This keeping in mind that in addition to Melotakis, Randy Rosario, Felix Jorge, and Fernando Romero are also on the 40-man.
  22. Any word on Sano's appeal and if he'll be suspended for tonight's game? https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjMkeTRwdnTAhUr4YMKHXR0BDYQqOcBCDkwAw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbssports.com%2Ffantasy%2Fbaseball%2Fnews%2Ftwins-miguel-sano-could-be-suspended-for-fridays-game%2F&usg=AFQjCNFOd0kCGZMUJqKgfRrFIdN3h948PA&sig2=_SqQaeCsCca4ltf_2ST40Q
  23. They said when he made his recent catch back against the wall that he hit his tailbone and back fairly hard. He got up ok but later left the game. No official report yet.
