  1. How much of that would you attribute to rust and the time off from injury?
  2. That's awesome. Love that stuff too. Adam Wainwright is from my town (still lives here too) and my son has been fortunate enough to run into him a few times because of playing baseball. Even after all these years of him playing, it is truly awesome to see just how much he loves the game (just don't wear Cubs stuff around him... not a huge fan, lol), and how much he wants to give back to the younger generation of players. If anyone is curious, google "Adam Wainwright Field - Brunswick, GA". I believe (?) he bought the land for the complex, and he also helped spearhead the development of it.

Great read. I love connecting with stories about baseball's past and just the drive that people have for the game. It has always been that passion for the game, that grit and determination, the absolute love that has planted baseball deep into the collective heart and soul of America. For this and other trailblazers and pioneers we are grateful and say a hearty Amen and profound thank you.
  4. Novelty type of pitcher? Just because he throws sidearm? So he's kind of like Neshek was/is a novelty type pitcher? Because he hasn't had any type of success in professional baseball at all.
  5. If things bounce right for the Twins: 92 Wins If not so much: 84/83 Wins
  6. Now, now... Let's not break out the Grammar Inquisitors just yet.
  7. Just for my personal edification, define "throws hard enough to be effective in the bigs"?
  8. I don't follow anyone on twitter, personally I think it's stupid, but there is (to me) a rather profound difference between being on Social Media and showing one's hind end on a routine basis.
  9. If I remember correctly it was his non-throwing arm that he hurt.
  10. It's times like these that make me really glad that I'm not the GM/Twins Brain trust. My two cents worth... Archer isn't worth the price the Rays will demand. Why? They don't have to trade him, plus the team control. We've all read the most likely STARTING asking price... Lewis. It goes up from there. If we were trying to get Kershaw... fine, I could close my eyes and pretend it was worth it. But Archer?? He has loads up talent, but up to this point... that just hasn't married up to the numbers that he has put up. Now, before the torches and pitchforks emerge... I'm not saying he doesn't have massive talent and potential. Just that the potential and talent expressed on the field of play give me pause. Especially with the price the Rays will exact from the Twins. So, yes this may be a minority vote, but I just couldn't justify the price for the product desired.
  11. If signing Napoli nets Darvish... so be it. Besides, I keep hearing and reading about how well respected Napoli is around the league by players and coaches, and that brings a whole level of value that is often underappreciated.
  12. Excellent hypothesis as usual Always. The only thing I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around though is the collusion on the part of the owners. If the players weren't getting any offers, I would say that was most likely the case or a part of it at least, but... my professional Spidey Sense just isn't tingling there. That isn't to say there isn't any possible way it might be happening, but for something of that magnitude to be going on... well let's just say that people just can't keep their pie holes shut, at least for very long. At some point, someone is going to screw up and let something slip or boast/confide to the wrong person and... BOOM! Many friends have cracked much bigger investigations on far less evidence. Just to keep this in perspective though, this is simply my professional opinion (emphasis on opinion), and I have been known to me wrong before.
  13. Excellent point. I too agree that Chicago will most likely be far scrappier than projected, but at the same time the team is so green that I can't help but feel they will wear down considerably as the season progresses.
  14. I concur. Perhaps we can petition the league to award all the teams in the league participation trophies so that all teams and players won't feel left out.
  15. Part of that could also be the money involved and invested in many of these players. I can imagine the parent organization trying to maximize what that.
  16. I'm pretty sure most folks have seen this from MLB Trade Rumors, but just in case... In his latest Dodgers mailbag, Andy McCullough of the L.A. Times writes that Yu Darvish has “made it clear” that he’d like to return to the Dodgers, which is part of the reason that his market hasn’t moved forward. Darvish, according to McCullough, has been waiting to see if the Dodgers will be able to shed any money; McCullough notes that they’ve explored dealing from positions of depth by gauging interest in well-compensated veterans such as Yasmani Grandal, Logan Forsythe and Hyun-Jin Ryu, though clearly nothing much has come of those endeavors to date. The fact that he’s waited this long suggests some degree of mutual interest, though the Cubs, Twins and Brewers have been most prominently linked to Darvish in recent weeks. So beats the heck out of me. I'm all for it if they do, but at this point I'm ready to say just sign Cobb or Lynn and let's just go ST and play some ball.
  17. Here's why I'm ok if the Twins sign a Darvish/Arrieta: #1: I love baseball #2: It's not my money or any of ours for that matter #3: I want to pretend that the Twins really do want to be competitive (even pros don't like to lose). #4: I love baseball (even in the bad years) #5: There are no sure things in life and even more so in baseball #6: It gives me something to share and pass on to my son, so that he may in turn pass it on to his. #7: I love talking about baseball (and yes even arguing about it... stupid Yankees) #8: I'm ok if someone doesn't agree with me or those who want to spend big in FA, I totally understand their arguments/stance. #9: There is nothing else like baseball on this planet and everyone else here is awesome for their love of it.
  18. Thank you, that's very generous of you . And as an additional aside, thank you for correcting/pointing out the typo... just don't tell anyone I work with, they'll most likely take my crayons away again
  19. Very true. You really do want to root for the guy, but I also find myself somewhat perplexed/(worried for him?) as to how he will fit in the bullpen. Perhaps he wows in spring training and it makes the decision easier. Then again, it is possible Falvine brought him in to challenge the incumbents with the message that no one is truly guaranteed a spot and you have to earn everything. For only in the crucible of the gauntlet may you be forged anew, and thusly made be warriors cable of great deeds and noble of spirit.
  20. Harrumph!! Harrumph!! You there!! I said give the Govna' a Harrumph!!
