  1. Wouldn't the "problem" of their best players being promoted also affect their competition?
  2. Money talks. When will be the next opportunity for the Twins to "signal" to Sano via a salary negotiation / arbitration?
  3. With Gilbert or Scott as a “floor”, it looks like the Twins should get a decent player at 20. What other picks do the Twins have? What tier of signing bonus are they in? And is there an update available on their International Signing Bonus Pool? Did the Braves SS bonus come out of this year’s money?
  4. A key variable is where the Twins find themselves in the standings. If they’re in the race, I just don’t see a lot of room on the roster, especially at SP and OF. If, alternatively, they remain under.500, September’s lineup will look like the All Minor League Team.
  5. I agree with the above posters who find it exciting when prospects are promoted, but it is only May 22. I kind of like the end of may as the 1/3rd mark for evaluations to be made and promotions / demotions to be instituted.
  6. 2018 quarter-pole versus 2017 full season: 2017: .260 / .334 / .434 / .768 almost exactly 5 runs / game 2018: .242 / .315 / .402 / .717 and only 4.2 runs / game Before the season, I think we were hoping batting would remain steady while pitching improved. So, batting has regressed while pitching has, unfortunately, remained pretty much static: 2017: 4.59 ERA, .266 BAA, 1.37 WHIP 2018: 4.46 ERA, .250 BAA, 1.39 WHIP
  7. Excellent summary! I was going to write something very similar. Take an 85 win team. Now subtract their ace. Now subtract an unbelievable five of eight defensive starters (as of Saturday night). I'm surprised they could score even four runs.
  8. Taylor Grzelakowski is also having a very good season at the plate. Could someone remind me how he was acquired? MiLB is silent on the topic. How is his defense? I see he's also listed as 1B / OF so I assume C is a work in progress.
  9. Would you really want a catcher equal in value to Lynn on the team?
  10. My problem with a six man rotation is a numbers issue. Six man rotation plus, what, eight man bullpen plus eight position players plus DH plus back up catcher = 24. Maybe someone can explain how increasing the starting rotation would decrease the BP number.
  11. I concur with The Doctor. For me, the better news is that the Twins have a catcher coordinator.
  12. What do you consider a good sample size? I'm thinking 1200-1500 MiLB plate appearances?
  13. Given the score and the minors going 0-4, this was arguably the worst day in Twins history in the last 2 years.
  14. As your Atlanta-based correspondent, I should point out that, in perhaps one of the worst marketing-based decisions ever, the owners of the Gwinnett Braves chose to rename their team the Gwinnett Stripers. The new name, meant to be pronounced strYpers, is to recognized striped bass fishing in the nearby "Lake". Unfortunately, the Atlanta area has had another reputation (see: https://www.thrillist.com/sex-dating/atlanta/why-atlanta-is-the-strip-club-capital-of-america), and, well: https://twitter.com/gdpsports/status/939165013599760384
  15. I don't think there are, but I can't say that with certainty. Remember that their new Dominican academy is also full of players from Dominican, Venezuela, etc. Perhaps a future article could address this. How are the facilities there?
  16. "If the Twins have any desire of keeping pace with the Indians this season they will need to play much better against them than they did last year, going 7-12 in 2017." I suspect their record will not be substantially improved this year.
