  1. On the plus side, the 'pen can get some work in today. Guessing we'll see Taylor Rodgers, maybe a couple others who haven't yet pitched.
  2. Couldn't have a worse debut. Just awful.
  3. This "Sano Striking Out 4 Times Per Game" thing is getting old. Ground out to the 3rd baseman for a change.
  4. A pleasure to watch Gibson last night - great game! I was going to say "Top of the order looked great"...but then I realized that the bottom 3rd of the order includes Kepler/Castro, so I guess I'll change that to "offense looked great". A shaky start for Moya, and so far the bullpen's given up all the runs this year. Nitpicking: did you all see that inning where the Twins loaded the bases with no outs, but didn't score? Kind of a bummer there. Buxton struck out a coupla times. Remember last year's 2-39 start for Bux and the mental battle he had to endure? Here's hoping the kid relaxes and just starts putting the ball in play.
  5. Better shake this one off and just move on and pick up some wins. Showing up at Target Field with an 0-5 record to play your home opener in 42-degree weather against James Paxon ain't a good look.
  6. Castro is a crappy hitter. When Buxton singles and steals 2nd base, he needs a guy behind him who can get a solid single to center field. When Castro strikes out, it's a complete waste of speed on the bases. We'd prefer to have a high-average guy like Mauer, Rosario, etc hitting behind Buxton so that a line drive single will score a run.
  7. Morrison hasn't really looked great, nor have his ABs. He needs to learn the "Twins Way" - get on base, dude! Robbie Grossman would have walked twice and got hit by a pitch by now.
  8. Here's the deal: Dozier, Mauer, Morrison, Rodney and Lynn should be considered year-long rentals. These are the types of players the Twins will be trading for in 2019 and 2020 at the deadline. The fact that the Twins enter this year already HAVING these guys on the roster means that this team is uniquely positioned to make a serious run here in 2018. Of course, the young players are a bit greener than you'd like. It'll be an interesting year. The Twins signed some big names this offseason for peanuts, essentially eliminating the need to trade for these guys in July. The 2018 Twins are a step ahead of every other contender in that regard.
  9. Gibson's not the #2, gang. Think of it this way: The Twins are starting the season mid-rotation. Odorizzi is #3, Gibby's #4. The real rotation is Berrios, Lynn, Odorizzi and Gibby.
  10. Agreed! Anyone in America can get a bottle of B-12 vitamins right down the street at Walgreen's or CVS. Heck, I live in Guatemala and I can go to a health food store here and pick up a bottle with no problem. As an MLB player, you just gotta be smart about that...would have thought after Santana made that 'mistake' 2 years ago this whole team would be on red alert about this stuff. So frustrating.
  11. It's pretty clear the Twins signed Morrison because they think he's better than Vargas. They were essentially given the opportunity to sign Morrison - knowing that they'd lose Kennys if they did it. They took the deal. It's too bad, like others have said Kennys looks like a guy who can hit 30+ homers with 500 AB. But Morrison hit 38 last year, and it appears the Twins prefer the sure thing over giving Vargas a shot. So be it. Here's hoping Kennys catches on with another team. I sure hope it ain't in the AL, because I'd hate seeing him hit 35 HRs for anyone in the Central, or the Red Sox, or frankly any team the Twins play more than once a year.
  12. HOLY HELL WE'RE GOING FOR IT, GANG!
  13. This is what I'm worried about. I mean, the Twins really have no choice at this point with Vargas, they're going to have to either outright him or deal him. I feel I'm in the minority on this board, but I've always thought Kennys had a lot of potential. If he were to be traded/claimed by a team that could get him 500 ABs, I think he could hit 34 HRs. People say that Kennys "had his chance" here, but I can't really recall him ever getting a full workload and regular playing time for a significant amount of any season. I think the logjam in the Twins system is what's stopped him from breaking out, not his lack of talent.
  14. Geez man, that's a very negative take if that's the first thing that comes to mind. The Twins aren't rebuilding, they're going for it this year. I am all for Dozier hitting the market - he's certainly earned it. The Twins have been shopping him for a while now and I can't blame him one bit. But let's all have some hope that come July, Dozier's starting his hot streak and the Twins are 2 games up on the Indians in the catbird seat.
  15. Wow! Okay, okay...slow down, let me gather my thoughts. I agree that Vargas is the odd man out. Too bad, I really liked him and always had hoped he'd break out. So LoMo will DH against righties, and spell Mauer on off days. He's definitely going to be a full-time piece of this offense. Do we really need Grossman at this point, simply to DH against lefties and fill in the OF once in a while? Couldn't Sano just DH against lefties and Escobar fill in at 3B? Regardless, a LOT of talented bats here. A good problem to have. Love this offseason so far.
  16. Looks like Jake Reed also pitched (in addition to Mejia and Rogers). Sorry to nitpick a tiny piece of your great story. Mejia lost 13 lbs? Hey, that's a positive. Does that mean he's going to stop nibbling while on the mound also? Heyooo!
  17. Honestly I'm not too upset about losing JT Chargois. Have you forgotten what the Twins added to their bullpen this year? Fernando Rodney, Jake Reed, and Zach Duke? Those guys are real MLB relievers. They actually can pitch, have a proven track record, and have tons of experience. I know we Twins fans are not used to having a bullpen of real MLB pitchers. We've been so mentally beat down over the years that we freak out over losing JT Chargois - a guy who didn't even pitch last year due to injury! C'mon people, lighten up! We lost an injury-prone prospect but we got three big names! Get used to it, this could be a pattern.
  18. Playing out the projected rotation on May 1st, just for fun: Lynn Santana Berrios Ordorizzi Gibson I could live with that.
  19. How is touting Joe's .305 average "cherry picking"?
  20. Per usual, a lot of unnecessary criticism of Joe from the fans. Sure, he's not a typical corner infielder with his 8-10 HR per year. But don't you think that when your 2B is hitting 35 HRs, you can afford a bit of a downgrade in power at 1B? The guy bats .300 and gives the Twins gold-glove defense. He was 7th in the AL in batting average and 5th in OBP! We'd be thrilled if Rooker even came close to those numbers. Thrilled. Rooker is a lottery ticket, a dream. Joe Mauer is going to give you Joe Mauer production. Enjoy it. It's guaranteed, money in the bank. If he has another year like 2017, extend him and be happy when he accepts. We'd all like to have Joey Votto as our 1B, but guys like that don't grow on trees. LETS GO JOE!
