Article: Game Thread: Twins v Cardinals, 5/15 @ 7:10pm CT
bighat replied to Riverbrian's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He's pitching in the American League, against teams that can hit and have mashers hitting the DH position. The Twins have a bad history of taking in guys with NL success (Ricky Nolasco and Vance Worley come to mind). They then proceed to get battered in the AL, because AL teams can rake. -

The Twins didn't sign Morrison play like a minor leaguer for a month (April) and be a borderline average singles hitter for the next 2 weeks (May). -

The Twins have scored 3 runs over the past 27 innings. Hard to win when you don't hit. Escobar and now Rosario have gone a bit cold and nobody else seems to be able to hit a baseball. The news on Sano is depressing. We're going to have Wilson and Adrianza's bats playing in a lot of games over the next month or two. On a positive note, I LOL'ed at today's headline...too funny. -
Article: MIN 5, LAA 4: Rally Rosie
bighat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yeah, it's rough to see Buxton striking out twice (again) tonight, then getting pinch-hit for...in this case, it meant losing Buxton for the 9th inning on defense in a 1-run game. Poor offense sometimes does outweigh good defense. The good news is we've seen Buxton get hot before, and when he's in the zone he's terrific at the plate. And he was just starting to come around too before he got hurt. I'm guessing the Twins will have to wait another few weeks for his bat to adjust. Rosario and Escobar have flat out pulled this team out of the ditch. Hey, Rodney with another save, that ERA looking almost reasonable! And how about this catcher, Wilson? The Twins are very hot with Castro out of the lineup, I'm feeling uneasy about his return. What a great way to wake up! Let's get one more today boys!- 30 replies

Article: LAA 7, MIN 4: What’s Up With Berrios?
bighat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't think a rehab stint would help Buxton much - he'd spend a week in Rochester and then come up and swing and miss for 3 more weeks against MLB pitching anyway. A rehab stint would be a week wasted, because Buxton needs to face MLB pitching. He's proven he can crush it in the minors, but that's never truly translated against MLB caliber pitching. He needs at bats against major leaguers because that's who the Twins need him to be able to hit against.- 48 replies

Article: Buxton’s Back: Was No Rehab a Mistake?
bighat replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
After 3 weeks away from baseball, I think we were going to see "Bad Byron" in the batter's box against MLB pitching regardless of the rehab assignment. I think the Twins know this, so they are going to get those first 2-3 weeks out of the way now by playing him. We should see Good Byron again by mid-June. Kind of a shame, as it may be another lost season offensively for Bux. It's become almost a given that he'll be out for a significant portion of the season at this point.- 60 replies

Article: MIN 7, STL 1: Five Alive
bighat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A 6-0 win and a 7-1 win @ STL? No nitpicking from me, I'll take it. Now on to LAA for a big 4-game series, where a split gives the Twins a winning road trip. Remember the Twins real turnaround last year started away from Target Field? They played much better on the road for a long stretch there.- 42 replies

When I heard Hawk was doing the broadcast, I went back and watched/listened to the Sox side of the broadcast yesterday - specifically when Shields lost the no-hitter and the Twins rallied for 3 runs in the 7th. You are right. He was completely disinterested. There was another old guy in the booth with him, I'm guessing the average age was 75. Hawk was talking about the old days, old players, then ripped on Barry Bonds (?) -- all while the Twins were rallying and the Sox lead was going down the tubes. In the old days he'd be fire and brimstone. But you're right, this time he just continued to talk about himself and his playing days, how he had 109 RBI back in '67, blah blah blah. Mentioning random teammates that nobody's ever heard of. I guess if I were in the 85-95 year-old demographic, I'd probably have enjoyed it. Not sure how any of the other Sox fans could have found that broadcast entertaining.

Article: CHW 6, MIN 5: Twins Blow 5-1 Lead
bighat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I said this exact same thing about Grossman during Spring Training. He's a great luxury to have if you're an NL team looking for a pinch hitter. At this point, the Twins are far enough back that they're going to play Grossman as much as possible to maximize his value. They're going to want prospects back when we trade him in July, and the more ABs he has the better prospects we'll get from the Nationals, Cubs, Diamondbacks, etc. The Twins aren't in "win now" mode. They're also not in "rebuilding" mode. What kind of purgatory have we found ourselves in? When does Buxton come back? His injuries at this point are defining his career. It's so frustrating.- 58 replies

Article: CHW 6, MIN 5: Twins Blow 5-1 Lead
bighat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At this point, no lead feels safe. Didn't the Twins jump out to a similar big lead against the Reds and blow it? This Twins team looks like it could lose 95 games. As someone said above: at this point, any win feels like a surprise. I didn't watch the game, but per usual I have my MLB At Bat notifications on. Every time a team scores, a little MLB logo appears on my phone to let me know that a team has scored. It's come to a point that when I see that notification my heart starts to sink - I just know something bad has happened. Kind of like when you get a call from the nursing home about great aunt Hazel: it might not be bad news, but it probably is.- 58 replies

You came up with the award, you do the research, write the articles, etc. A combined no-hitter certainly fits the bill! I don't see any reason for you to apologize for anything you've written here. Good job and thanks for the reporting!

Article: TOR 7, MIN 4: WHAT IS HAPPENING!?!?!?
bighat replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So my girlfriend's brother went to Romania a few months ago. It snowed, and he was pretty excited because it was the first time he's ever seen snow! How about that, eh? Say, anyone ever been on a safari? I think it would be cool to see a rhino up close, in the wild. But then again, I wonder if the other tourists would ruin it. I mean, I went to Playa del Carmen this past winter and absolutely would never go again, just too many touris......what's that? Baseball? What's baseball?- 62 replies

Thanks for the update! Enns was part of the Garcia flip, wasn't he? I think he was kind of a "throw in", the major piece was Littell...looks like Enns was indeed just window dressing after all. Petit, a journeyman. Guess that's the right move, veteran, etc. Would have loved to see Gordon get a shot, move Esco to 3rd for a few games. Oh well. Go Twins!

Article: Were We Possibly This Wrong?
bighat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"there is a lot of baseball left" could also be a negative. The problem with this statement is that the way the Twins are playing, a 23-17 run over the next 40 games seems highly improbable. Impossible even. It's like getting straight Ds and Fs all semester, and then saying: "Well, if I get straight A's next semester I'll have my GPA back to a 2.0". I like the positive attitude and the spin. But let's be honest: we're here to gripe and complain. We're frustrated and ticked off. The only thing that's going to make us feel better are: 1. Twins wins 2. More cowbell Pep talks and 'what ifs' aren't my cup o' tea right now, unfortunately! I wish they were. I like your positive spin. I truly hope the Twins do get on a roll.- 78 replies

Article: Were We Possibly This Wrong?
bighat replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree. Problem is, by the time Santana comes back it's going to be too late. No one player is going to turn around a season on June 1 if the Twins are 20 games below .500 at this point. Last night was the first time I thought: hmm, I wonder what the Twins are going to get for Dozier at the trade deadline? I wouldn't be angry if the Twins were just hanging around .500, dropping a game here and there, etc. But to see them spiral out of control like this is just infuriating to watch. So early. We were all so excited and waited all off season, only to see the season go into the tank by May 1? We fans didn't sign up for this. We just had a "lost season" in 2016. That type of total system failure should be a once-per-decade experience. To have this dismal 2018 come just 2 years after the infamous 2016 collapse is too much to bear.- 78 replies

It was foul, but still another terrible defensive play by Garver. Dick is coming to his defense a bit too strongly...he just called it "a great play by Garver".
