  1. I remember an article about them in the STrib - maybe 5-6 years ago when they were both playing A ball. They used to hang out and go fishing together down in Florida during the season to kill time and hang out before games and on off days. They've been tight for a while.
  2. Per Dustin Morse's Twitter, interesting bullpen stat: Blake Parker 1.17 ERA (12Ks) Taylor Rogers 1.47 ERA (25Ks) Ryne Harper 1.50 ERA (14Ks) Mike Morin 1.50 ERA (5Ks) Matt Magill 2.00 ERA (12Ks) Trevor May 2.76 ERA (15Ks)
  3. Mariner's starting pitcher had this to say, BTW: ''Those guys over there, there's not much you can say,'' LeBlanc said. ''I want to say that's the best hitting team I've ever faced in my life. That's how they looked tonight.''
  4. "The Grain Belters" "Mill City Mashers" "First Avenue Heavy" Too bad for Berrios....but eh, he'll get over it. Honestly sitting so long between innings had to throw him off. He pitched like a guy with a 15-0 lead: throw it down the middle and just let the other guys swing. I see no reason to worry at all about him. Good grief that was fun to watch. Buxton and Sano going yard, Bux with a grand salami! We are doing this all without Cruz and Garver. Castro is having a career year at the plate. Adrianza is our worst offensive player? Oh yeah he went yard Friday and drove in a pair. Offensively I say keep these guys intact. Nobody needs replacing, don't mess with it. Deal some minor leaguers for a lights out bullpen guy or 2 at the deadline and just go for it.
  5. Maybe the Twins can trade for Austin Adams at the deadline and have 2 Austin Adamses in the bullpen! That dude for Seattle looked NASTY.
  6. Couple of guys commenting on Sano here and I'll add my .02. The good news: Twins can now afford bad nights like this from Sano. Or any other player. Schoop was struggling Thursday night. Buxton had a bad night last night at the plate, too. In the past if Sano went 0-5, the Twins likely lost or maybe just squeaked one out. Right now we can afford to let guys play their way out of slumps and I think it's an ideal situation for Sano to get his feet under him. While I agree those check-swings hit a sore spot last night, don't forget he did hit 2 doubles the other night! James Rowson and Rocco Baldelli and Tony Diaz are chilling out and Sano will start to get used to how they manage. It might relax him a bit. And Nelson Cruz is watching first hand. I personally can't wait until Nelson Cruz gets back in this lineup WITH Sano. He might just be the guy that can help the most (even though it's not his job).
  7. Buxton with a HR, Sano with 2 doubles and an RBI. Twins score 11 runs and win the game. Safe to say many a Twins fan spent all winter dreaming about that scenario! Sano did not look rusty. He did not look frustrated. He looked confident, calm, and ready to play a major role in this offense. Wow...
  8. Cruz had a sore wrist. He'll likely be back in the lineup today or tomorrow - Twins were just giving him some extra rest. He can play outfield and not drop routine fly balls if needed. Garver's out until June 1 at least. Unfortunate.
  9. Max Kepler is batting .230 - he batted .220 last year, 4th worst among AL regulars. Sure, he's a guy you want in the lineup...but not batting leadoff. Buxton surely isn't a better hitter than Polanco or Cruz, but he's an improvement to Kepler. In the end though, the Twins are 10 games above .500 and we should be pretty pleased that we've got Buxton playing a big part in this, regardless of where he hits.
  10. Reports say Austin Adams will be getting the call from Rochester. 32 year-old veteran who last pitched in the majors for Cleveland back in 2016. Career MLB stats: 2-0 with a 6.29 ERA in 50 IP.
  11. I respect the heck out of Sid Hartman, he'll be a legend for a long time and should get his own statue on Nicolett Mall. That said....I dunno, man. Kinda hard watching him struggle to even get a question out there. I know, I know, I'm sorry. Speaking of struggling. Happy trails, Hildy. This Buxton guy might be finally living up to his potential. I'd love to see him getting more ABs but then again maybe the Twins are paranoid about anything that might seem like a "push". I'll take his .280 and league-leading doubles any day. Nice HR today too, he might hit 15-20 this year.
  12. Funny, I was typing the exact same thing as you posted this. At some point I think the Twins have to just give him a shot.
  13. I have to agree. The problem is, if you have Polanco batting leadoff, who do you bat second? Buxton? Then where do Cron and Sano fit in? Do we bat Schoop 9th? Should Gaver (when playing) be in the heart of the order? I personally like Garver down at about 7, with Kepler in the 8 hole, Buxton at 9. At some point though, the Twins should move Buxton up and see what he can do in the 1 or 2 hole. He should be ready for that later this year I hope.
  14. Must have missed that - thanks for the tip! Makes total sense. Hope he's back in there tonight, yeah when he pinch ran that was a good sign.
  15. Kepler absolutely has to advance the runner there. You can swing for the fences all you want, but if you get a gift situation like that in the 8th inning you get that runner over by hook or by crook!
  16. I think this team will be fine. It's unfortunate they've been kinda playing with the 'B' team for the past couple of days. We might get the "B" team for the remainder of this series, unfortunately. Glad Castro will be on the bench tonight, Kepler will be back in his leadoff spot, and hopefully we'll have an infield of Astudillo, Polaco, Schoop and Cron. A few nagging problems: 1. Get Cruz back ASAP - unfortunately the Twins will be careful with him, but he'll be okay. Maybe he'll wait until Seattle to play? 2. Schoop has been out with a sore left shoulder. Odd injury... 3. Perez and Berrios show they're human. No biggie, but it hurts that the two best pitchers haven't been at their best when the Twins feel desperate for wins. 4. Sano is on the way. I think the Twins may need this guy sooner rather than later....but be careful what you wish for. The guy will still have games where he strikes out 3-4 times. Here's hoping he doesn't have one of those games right away upon his return.
  17. Cruz to have MRI it appears. Hope he's okay, this team needs him big time.
  18. Perez hurt. Cruz hurt. Hildenberger bad! This team pops out like crazy. Turned the game on in the 7th only to watch several pop-ups that didn't leave the infield. Nobody's immune, seems to be just about every player on the Twins does this at least once per game. Easy to be bitter and over-complain when the Twins lose, I guess. Still very happy with this team. Tigers seemed to have some fire. That closer for Detroit is money, wish the Twins had a guy like that in the pen. Seems hard to imagine this team going deep into October without at least two legit shutdown guys in the 'pen. Are Rogers and Parker really going to carry this team all season? I am sure the Twins will trade for someone in July, that'll be interesting for sure.
  19. Pineda with the quality start yesterday BTW - and Stewart had one too. How many QS in a row is that for the Twins? Wow. Hildy was the lone black mark but I don't second-guess putting him in there. We have Rogers fresh for today if needed, Perez on the mound, and the Twins are in good position to take 3-of-4 which is what they wanted out of this series. Astudillo is back. Sano is reportedly going to spend a couple weeks down in AAA because they want him to get used to playing every day... Adrianza is out of options but valuable as both a PR and a defensive infielder. La Tortuga is going to have to play his behind off in the next two weeks. Otherwise I fear it'll be AAA for Willians. As much as we all complain about Adrianza, he has value and with no options it's hard to imagine the Twins would just give him away. If that's the biggest problem the Twins have in the foreseeable future, things are going well!
  20. A player with similar numbers to Kepler right now is Joc Pederson. Not sure what that says, but it's interesting. We focus on Kepler's offense (as well we should) but he plays a very nice RF and can move to center without any problems. So far he seems to fit pretty well in this aggressive Twins lineup. I'd still like to see him take more pitches at the top of the order but I'm not going to make a big deal of it. Plenty of time left this season to make adjustments.
  21. Does Astudillo come off the IL and play 3rd today in Marwin's absense? Or are the Twins going to play Adrianza in both games? You'd think this would be an ideal time to activate La Tortuga. From all reports he's ready....or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part. Hope Gonzalez is OK and not affected in any way long-term. We've seen those blows to the head derail careers.
  22. Congrats to Perez on his new addition to the family, he's doing the right thing taking some time away. Maybe a little rest will do him good. Team's on fire right now. Those bad games in NYY seem like a long time ago. Getting used to winning every night is fun. Rosario trying to hit HRs every time up or what? Someone should tell him that he doesn't need to do that...plenty of HRs to go around. Kepler with 8 now? Wow.
  23. Did anyone catch that moonshot Buxton hit that went just foul? 5th deck. Cruz went 0-for-6 and this team still scored 9 runs. This team has so many quality hitters, and as long as 2-3 of them are hot any given night, they can carry a team. Last night it was Cron, Polanco, Rosario. Another night it might be Schoop, Cruz, Kepler or Garver. Buxton and Gonzales are the two weakest hitters and even they can do damage. Throw in solid pitching like you saw during this series and this team can be very good. I think they are mentally tough as well. Best record in MLB on May 9, we'll take it. Hope we're in the same position on June 9.
  24. Cave and Astudillo (I fear) will be spending much of the season in Rochester. Adrianza and the extra bullpen guys will stay. It's just the conservative type of move that seems most likely to me, having watched this team.
