  1. I was thinking that too. Perez has looked more like his career average these days - a #5 starter with a 4.56 career ERA. He's been pretty bad his last 2 starts. He works SO SLOWLY that it's hard for me, even as a Twins fan, to watch him pitch. The league's stopped swinging at that inside cutter. Just one strikeout? Pineda, Perez, and Gibson make up over half the starting rotation. I don't know how much longer the Twins can just roll the dice with these three guys. I like Pineda and Gibby more than Perez at this point but I've had concerns about all 3 this season. Regardless of this loss, it was nice to see Buxton and Polanco both go yard. And Cruz is back! Looks like the offense is going to have to carry this team and it appears they're capable. Hopefully they can stay relaxed and not feel too much pressure today. Just relax, grab a win, everything will be just fine.
  2. "damp grass"? Honestly I had no idea they had outdoor baseball in Japan. Every single highlight I've ever seen in my entire life has been from inside a dome.
  3. Cruz looked rusty. He might have some additional rough ABs in the next couple of games, dude's been out a month. The good news is that he's back! In the long run his presence is a huge plus for this team. I think we need to temper expectations on Garver a bit. He was on a hot streak that was simply unsustainable.
  4. ESPN's Marly Rivera reported yesterday: "Nelson Cruz (wrist) told me that he felt "the best" he has felt after hitting in the cage at Tropicana Field (Thursday). Cruz also said he'll take regular batting practice on Friday, and depending on how he feels, the team will make a decision as to whether he'll be activated off the IL."
  5. Perez was terrible. In defense of Perez, the defense behind him tonight was also terrible. How he got hung out to dry with 6 ER is beyond me.Just one game. Looking forward to a better effort tomorrow. What a boost Polanco, Cruz, and Astudillo would be to this lineup tomorrow. Twins can't take TB lightly and expect to escape with easy wins. Need to, ya know, play the A team.
  6. Unreal that I was just thinking about this and was going to post my own question about it. Here's who I think deserves it: Polanco - sadly, Lindor will get the start even though he's missed most of the 1st half. Fan voting is a joke and it's only gotten worse over the years. Rosario - deserves to be a starter as well, leads league in HR and RBI Berrios Odorizzi Perez I don't think Kepler, Buxton, or Cron have a chance to get in.
  7. Twins may have something with Smeltzer here. Think about some of the other debuts of recent AAA guys: Stewart, Gonsalves, Littell....last night's performance reminded me more of what Romero was doing last year in his first appearances. Smeltzer just may stick. That said, regardless of what his MLB future holds, the kid is playing with house money. He's already beaten the toughest opponent he'll ever face. Awesome job last night, what a story and it was great to see his family supporting him big time. They were emotional and proud of him. Too cool. Buxton almost had that catch. Chief was right, this game felt almost like a playoff game or at the very least a late-season important game. Crowd was into it, good fight from both teams. Overall an entertaining little series for sure.
  8. Rats. Oh well, the Twins were not going to go 102-0 the remaining 2/3 of the season. Rogers wasn't going to have a 0.00 ERA the rest of the way. This was gonna happen - and it'll happen again. The Twins let one get away against a good Milwaukee team. That's baseball. Heck, the White Sox took 2 of 4 in Houston last week. The Blue Jays roughed up the Twins earlier in the year in Minneapolis. The Orioles won the season opener in Yankee Stadium. Every team has a chance on any given day. I agree that the bullpen needs some help, we all know that. I'm not going to panic about Rogers or the Twins just yet though. Hope the Twins get some revenge tonight. My one sore spot: would love to see Cruz in the lineup again. Getting a bit annoyed. Don't think Cruz would have struck out on three pitches with 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth....and I wish Sano would been thinking SINGLE instead of HR in his last AB.
  9. Either a coincidence or LaVelle & Dan read Twins Daily! Very cool. Whatever we're calling them, they're sure as heck fun to watch and have been the entire year. 9 game lead, wow!
  10. I threw a few out there last week. I think "The Grain Belters" was the most popular (ie: one person said they liked it). This team is on a ridiculous roll. Do the Twins face any true MLB aces in the next week? I'd like to see a game against a Sale or Verlander type because at this point the Twins are just crushing mediocre and bad pitching without a second thought.
  11. Completely agree. Honestly I don't think many ballplayer types fit the typical profile of a "millennial kid". Guys who get to The Show and have come through the minors have probably lived a life somewhere between "Animal House" and "Beverly Hillbillies" since they were 18 years old. Okay, maybe not all of them...but my point is that pro athletes probably rode their big wheels without helmets when they were kids.
  12. I don't think the Twins are going to be sending Pineda to another contender at the deadline. With his 1-year contract there will likely be zero trade partners for him. He could be "dumped" as part of a deal (ie: Marlins give us Sergio Romo in exchange for Nick Gordon but they must take Pineda as part of the deal, etc). Kind of like the Twins last year with Logan Forsythe. Twins didn't want him, he just came in the same box as Luke Raley and we didn't have a choice. I don't think he's THAT bad. Way too early to give up on Pineda, he's actually thrown back-to-back quality starts, not sure why we'd panic just yet. Give him 2 more months before we pull any kind of trigger on Big Mike.
  13. Molitor was almost physically unable to say the words "he had a good game" when talking about anyone. A guy could go 7 innings and give up 1 hit and Molitor would start the interview with "he got one up and made a mistake there in the 4th", or whatever. Baldelli, on the other hand, sugar coats everything. Almost every interview he uses words like "very special" and "quality at bats" and stuff like that. Sounds like a teacher praising elementary school kids. But you know what? It seems to be working - that's all that matters in the end. If it ain't broke don't fix it, I say. If I could talk to Rocco, I'd tell him he's having a very special year here as our manager. Just real quality stuff. Whatever works, man. I got absolutely no complaints.
  14. Our most glaring weakness is the fans' inability to accept that this team is going to sweep the Dodgers in 4 games and win their 3rd World Series title in October. Aside from that, probably the bullpen.
  15. In a perfect world, you get to keep the good players you like and trade the bad players you don't like for All-Stars. Alas, it doesn't work like that. Teams routinely give up prospects 1-5 in their systems for big names. If the Twins acquire a big name, expect to see someone you like going the other direction.
  16. Conspiracy theory alert: Arraez is being showcased as the key piece in a major deal for a pitcher in July. Twins package Raley and Arraez for a solid #3 or #4 veteran for the stretch run.
  17. Our 14th man (Austin) and 15th man (Reed) are/were both starting for San Fran this year many times!
  18. I heard that some fans went to bed at 10:15pm when the Twins were getting no-hit thru 5 innings. Oh, wait, that was me. Thrilled, yet not shocked to see the results this morning. Wow!
  19. I also check this site out on mobile. In my experience, you don't have to log in all the time, it pretty must just logs you in automatically. I logged in once and it's just saved my user/pass and it's very quick. haven't had any problems. I think an app would be the logical next step for TD as well. That may be a big hit with mobile users.
  20. I work for an online subscription-based service. We require people to register in order to view/post. I wonder if that might work for you guys if you want to increase registrations? It'll turn lurkers into registered members. Maybe have a landing page that says something like: "We're glad you're interested in reading the content! Don't worry, TwinsDaily is 100% free. In order to view our content and post to our forums, please take a quick second to sign up. It just takes 2 seconds and you'll be back to browsing the best Twins news in town", or something like that. I guess it all depends on how much of the traffic % the non-registered users (aka: lurkers) make up.
  21. Woke up this morning and what do I see? Sano hit a home run and the Twins won. Yeah! Now if Sano can just start sitting on some curveballs he might get himself into the mix for MLB comeback player of the year. He'll have to battle Buxton, Odo, and Perez for it. The Twins aren't going to score 12 every night. Great to see them score 3 and win. Absolutely huge to win the opener in LA. This Arraenz kid is awesome! Edit: People like to dog on the AL Central, but look at the AL West. Just one team above .500 - the Astros are running away with it. The AL East is a 3-horse race but Baltimore and Toronto are even easier to beat than Detroit or KC.
  22. I agree Tom. What worries me most is the rust factor - think about Lynn's start to the season last year. It's going to take Kimbrel at least 2 months on an MLB roster to even start to warm up. You also HAVE to play the guy even when he's struggling just to get those innings under his belt. Other teams are staying away, I think the Twins should do the same. Luckily our management isn't often the type to go in on a situation like this. I think the Twins should work something out via trade in July, and I am sure they will.
  23. He was clearly trying to make a joke ie: "If I did more push ups, that ball would have been a HR instead of a double" - I get it, it's a fairly wholesome and a bit funny. And honestly I don't think he meant to show anyone up. That said, the opposing pitcher didn't think it was funny and I don't blame him. I'm guessing that'll be Royce's first and last attempt at that kind of thing. Compared to other "problems" that some players have, I'm not to worried about Royce's attitude. The kid seems to be just a great guy.
  24. When Cruz comes back, what's the move? It seems pretty obvious that Arraenz goes back to AAA. I would imagine that Garver's return will mean the end for Astudillo for a while?
  25. We are a fickle bunch. This team is going to lose more games. Probably games just like this. Gibson wasn't great. May wasn't good. Offense was snoozing. I heard Baldelli told the team not to bother coming to early warmups. Just show up before game time, screw batting practice, you've earned a day to relax. This stuff will happen. It's a shame Cleveland won and got closer, but they'll have much tougher opponents moving forward than the Twins do, schedule-wise.
