  1. Great article. I remember when this went down as well. My reaction was, "That's it? We only had to give up Palacios?...For Odorizzi? Wow. What dirt do we have on Tampa's front office that allowed this to happen?"
  2. Also, SERIOUSLY? Terrible. The colors, mascot, logo, everything. They should've had a fan voting, much like the Gwinnett Stripers had when they changed names. Could you imagine sitting in this meeting? Pitch Guy: "I got it. I got it. Guys, how about the Fort Myers........Mighty Mussels?" Everyone else in the room: "Genius."
  3. Lookouts apparel is about as good as it comes. I regret not purchasing their game jerseys when they switch from blue and white to black and red.
  4. Makes me feel like I'm at a zoo. I went to one minor league game in the Carolinas with extended fencing all the way down (Carolina Mudcats). Couldn't stand it. Completely made me feel segregated from the game. I get it though. A screamer down the line is dangerous. Just sucks.
  5. A.) Is Odorizzi better/more proven than Wheeler? I get the QO on Odorizzi, but locking someone up extremely comparable to Odo for $100-$110? I alternate between clapping and cringing. 2.) The Sox...They're legit. Just how good is Grandal though? I'm not sold. However, what the heck did Giolito eat/supplement last year? He went from "meh" for almost his entire MLB career to best in the division last year. Wow. Applause necessary. His K rate increase alone is astonishing. I didn't even mention Eloy or Kopech. and D.) I'm excited. A Sox & Twins division race would be like it was in the 00's.
  6. MLB owners can afford to keep all minor league affiliations, they can afford to pay all players minimum wage, and they can afford to keep all 40-rounds of the draft. Yet, they choose to contract, they choose to take advantage of “seasonal worker” wages, and raise MLB ticket prices, concessions, and pro shop goods. I’m forever and always a Twins fan, but in the past 5 years my summers have been spent following minor league teams religiously. Minor League baseball is as Americana as it gets. The GM’s & staffs of MiLB teams are constantly wanting fans to have the best experience possible, all while enjoying the likes of big names early on in their careers. The interaction between players and fans in the minors is, for the most part, genuine. This would sadden me deeply.
  7. Tom...hired. Pack your box with TD. You're convincing with Boyd. You think they'd take Rooker over Larnach and anyone not named Lewis, Graterol, or Balazovic instead of Jeffers. Finding a solid hitting catcher who can actually catch a good game is so rare.
  8. The Kirilloff and Rooker stuff is pretty bold. I like it. However, if we bring up Rooker now, I think we're looking at a sub-.200 hitter for the first half of the season. He'll rebound well and do great eventually, but to start, not so much.
  9. ...also, just put Kirilloff in the 40.
  10. Cole or Strasburg. No exception, unless they Darvish us and choose to go elsewhere. Then we’re (I’d love to eat my words), stuck with Wheeler, if he’d even choose to sign with us. I sure hope we’re not a destination top line starters choose not to come to...
  11. I assume Twinsfest has moved to Friday-Saturday because Sunday doesn't bring in income (even though profits don't go to the Twins), or the players don't want to commit to 3 days in the blistering cold. In my opinion, Sunday has been THE most enjoyable day at Twinsfest because it is less hectic. Being crowded in the skinny hallways of Target Field really takes away from the experience. Unfortunately, that'll be worse now since they thinned it down to 1 1/2 days.
  12. Thank you!!! Somebody said it. Granted, Wells has only reached AA w/32 innings, but he's improved with every advancement up the ladder. Yes, he's coming off a surgery, but he's 6'8" with stuff. On top of that, he's committed to becoming better. It was well known he has moved down the route of taking care of himself in the off-season (ironic, I know). However, someone is going to pick this guy up and play the "stash him card" since he's going to be fresh off an injury. Unfortunately, it rarely matters in contract talks or adding a man to the 40-man roster, but Tyler Wells won the Harmon Killebrew award and is a standout a person.
  13. 1.) We sign him to a 3-year/$51 million deal. Pro - Fantastic!!! We got a guy for the remainder of his prime. He's proven, and there is nothing to suggest he doesn't deserve it. Con - Other teams can have at him. Offer the moon and we can't do anything about it.. 2.) We give him the qualifying offer. Pro or Con? - He accepts it. He has another exceptional year, he signs for $60-$80 million for 3-4 years instead of wrapping him up at 3/$51 million. Con - He has a down year, and we've ruined his chances of cashing in on his ONE big shot at a favorable contract...but what should we care, it's a business. It's not Minnesota Nice.
  14. I did enjoy reading this article though.
  15. I think I'd have been more interested in reading a "minor league" all decade team. The 20-teens was so non-eventful for the big league squad. C - Mitch Garver (HM: Ryan Jeffers) 1B - Lewin Diaz (HM: Zander Wiel/Max Kepler) 2B - Luis Arraez (HM: Jorge Polanco) 3B - Miguel Sano (HM: Travis Blankenhorn) SS - Nick Gordon (HM: Royce Lewis/Jorge Polanco) OF - Oswaldo Arcia, Alex Kirilloff, Byron Buxton (HM: Zack Granite/Adam Brett Walker III) LHP - Stephen Gonsalves (HM: Lewis Thorpe) RHP - Brusdar Graterol/Jose Berrios (HM: Fernando Romero/Jordan Balazovic) Relief Pitcher - J.T. Chargois (HM: Jake Reed)
  16. Same year the Nationals signed Soto for $1.5 million, we signed Wander Javier for $4 million. Next to impossible to project, but man. If Soto was in the majors as a 19-year-old, how did others not see something?
  17. I don't think everyone truly appreciates how special this kid is because of how far they are into analytics.
  18. I could be way off here, but prior to Pittsburgh trading Cole, didn't they ask for a package of Nick Gordon, Tyler Jay, and another complete non-factor?
  19. My hatred for the Yankees right now is blinding my emotions.
  20. This is confirmed. Yankee Stadium smells like the armpit of the older brother who never let you win.
  21. Yes!!! I don't like how everyone's looking at him as this reliever. He's still a starter, who's only way of contributing right now is to be in the pen. I'm excited to see plans for him in the future, as long as their not involving the bullpen.
  22. This is our first taste of a maturing Sano. We've all been accustomed to a low-20's Sano who has seemed to be linked to bad decisions on and off the field. I'm excited to see an upper 20's Sano, especially after being paired with Cruz for two years.
  23. I agree here. Maybe by late summer. It'll be nice to get a catcher or two that we've drafted to be at the AAA level instead of minor league signings. I was a bit surprised that Jeffers wasn't included on the roster. Just a showing of how much the organization appreciates Rortvedt's defense. Although, Jeffers has proved to be a catcher who strives to get better. I love Ben's defense, and I love Jeffers' bat.
