Besides the NFL's no-guaranteed contracts, baseball owners have it made. Post-signing bonuses, they pay the majority of their minor league "assets" that infamous minor league salary. To top that off now, the market over the past 2 years has been extremely slow and owner friendly at that. Also, granted, Buxton wasn't performing, but they robbed him of free-agency by another year, which is HUGE in baseball ages. The fact that Jimmy P. is completely pocketing the no-Mauer era is probably piquing this frustration. Sorry, couldn't make the Twins Daily Gala so I couldn't buzzingly voice my frustrations. The podcast made it sound like a good time. I'd love to hear Cuddy's story. Bottom line, ownership gets richer and us fans have to annually pay more and more to watch mediocrity at Target Field. I'm sorry, I blacked out. What did I say?

Do we trade Kepler when his stock is "high" and get something, knowing that Kirilloff isn't that far behind? I only say "high" because teams seem to have interest in him because of his team control, age, defense, and potential.

Article: Prospect Spotlight Series: Jhoan Duran
jrod23 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
From everything I gather, he seems to be a very level headed & humble kid. Just seeing his demeanor change from being locked in on that mound throughout the game, then seeing him afterwards mingling w/fans as a very humble and appreciative kid impressed me. Very much like R. Lewis impressed me. Jhoan deserves some accolades after he joined the Kernels. Still room for skepticism, but he's off to a GREAT start with the organization. As for the Gonsalves vs. Duran piece. Come on. The closer a guy gets to the majors, the further he sinks on prospect lists. It's just baseball nature, for obvious reasons. Only the freaks stay at the top and prove it (i.e. Acuna, Albies, Guerrero Jr., Bregman, etc.). I guess Guerrero hasn't proven it yet, but he's as sure thing as they get. -

I haven't been this big of a rookie fan since Dink and Chad Allen. I hope Willians pans out to be more than Dink and Allen on the field. Just gotta love the guy. I'm a bigger Cave fan than Garver, but Garver gets my vote.- 22 replies

Article: Week in Review: Bittersweet Ending
jrod23 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Well written gentlemen. I'm not a winning gambler, but I can't see Joe coming back after this past weekend. The play was so Joe, but the process was so elaborate in the sense of "Joe". All the planning, scheming, and surprising people he did behind the scenes. Love it. Secondly, I'm confident Gonsalves will bounce back and be an above average mid-rotation guy. This is what he does. He struggles off the bat, but busts his butt on making adjustments and outlasts. Lastly, how did we not give Jake Reed a September call up? What does that guy need to do to get a shot?- 21 replies

Article: Powerful Pro Debut For Kernels Michael Davis
jrod23 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Royce is a top prospect, with no denying, and I'm a HUGE fan of his, but I think the Kernels defense at short got a little better when Davis came up. It was nice when Miranda got bumped up and Helman stepped up. Didn't miss a beat with the Davis/Helman combo. Being an underdog fan, I appreciate late rounders getting opportunities and making the most of it. The Sally League had a 20th rounder get player of the year in 2018 in Casey Golden (who actually played with Jeffers at Wilmington).- 11 replies

Miracle & Twins Extend Agreement Thru 2022
jrod23 commented on Steven Buhr's blog entry in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket
Pensacola would probably make the most sense here. Closer to Ft. Myers and solid stadium complex. On the flip side, I'm a fan of the Tennessee Smokies ballpark. Call me a homer, but of all the minor league ballparks I've been to, the Smokies stadium reminds me the most of Cedar Rapids. I love a minor league ballpark that makes me feel like I'm at a minor league game. -
Article: The Baddoo Philosophy: Just Score Runs
jrod23 replied to Steven Buhr's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Couldn't agree more with the article Steve. The point on waiting to see what happens in Fort Myers nails it. He could really show his clutch ability come playoffs and grow more off of that, but for the most part, he needs to be challenged at the next level. I compare his eye to LaMonte Wade's. He's stronger and more athletic than Wade, but Wade was more advanced through college ball. I'm excited for Baddoo and am really wanting him to doing well at the next level. On a side note, it was great to meet you down in Cedar Rapids a couple weeks back vs. Beloit. -
First, Kirilloff is a phenom and is going to be special. He could honestly win Hitter of the Month every month. Following the minors has always been my favorite, but this past month was ridiculous. So many solid bats swinging. Your list hits it on the head. So many capable bats. Even Baddoo has been doing more than walking it out. Miranda keeps excelling, and Rooker has been pretty lights out. Now Falvine has added more bats to the system. Should have an award for Breakout New Minor Leaguer (Austin popped a bomb last night, De La Trinidad has been fantastic, and Jhoan...wow, what a debut). Our top prospects have moved from pitcher heavy to bat heavy (not sure how great that is). Lewis and Kirilloff are flat out two extremely great kids that can play the game and go about it the right way. In Jeffers, we've seemed to find a catcher who can smash balls. And I'm LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT JERRY!!! Rortvedt's bat is coming around, which is great. But man, Jeffers can swing. Talent is rolling right now.

So Sean Miller, who's batted .184 in AA, leapfrogged Nick Gordon? Is Nick Gordon in too good of a groove right now that they don't want to mess with it? Or is it going to be such a short stint that they don't want to bother with it? Was the call for a utility man? On a side note, good for Sean Miller on getting his first AAA hit.

We can all see the plan written on the wall for Lewis & Javier. Move Lewis up to Fort Myers. Promote Javier to Cedar Rapids. It'll be no surprise when it happens. Trouble is, Joe Cronin is more than holding his own at SS right now for the Miracle. Now, I highly doubt Cronin is the factor holding back Lewis, but you can't argue Cronin is rolling right now. Selfishly, I want Lewis to stay in a Kernels uniform to win the first half. Love seeing all these prospects playing together. I'm confident they'll all find their groove and start winning again shortly.

Zander seems to be doing exactly what everyone expected Rooker too do. Zander is no slouch, being a product of Vandy baseball. Very commendable start for him.

How much longer is Beloit going to keep a team? What would it take for the likes of Rochester to get a team, or Mankato? Basically, just get Minnesota a Midwest League team. Loaded question, and tons of reasons why it wouldn't work. But what if it did work?

Great writeup Steve. That Memorial Day weekend looks great if you're a fan with a hankering for some baseball. But man, that's in the heart of a grinding stretch the way it is. Those parts of the season must be an absolute blur for the boys. The guys are looking great though, when they're able to play. Watching Kirilloff break out in Peoria was special to see. That swing is money. Besides his errant throw vs. Clinton, I've been very impressed with Bechtold on both sides of the ball. Tiger just got out of the cage on that throw. Lastly, I'd love to eat crow all season when it comes to how well Rortvedt has been playing. They're definitely finding ways to get both him and Banuelos involved.

Blankenhorn looked pretty decent at 2B. I'd see him as a Denny Hocking type player who could play anywhere, but is just a purebred athlete. That could be a stretch for Whitefield, but you know what? There's nothing saying this kid couldn't be. Insanely fast, great glove, quick bat (from the days of playing softball), and great size. After starting very strong, he faded a bit in his first full pro season. I'd love to see an Australian ball player really make it one of these times. Where's Luis Arraez?

Yes, Watson came from Hagerstown. I really like the kid. Surprised me that he chose to go pro when he was drafted out of high school in the 34th round. When you’re 6’5” and throw left with at least some velocity in high school, you’d think you’d have D-1 offers like crazy where he could’ve invested in himself instead of getting a measly signing bonus out of the late rounds. Truly hope things work out for him though. He was definitely trending upward after being in the Sally League ASG.
