  1. My guess is that he will be 27 prior to the start of next season and his career minor league OPS is .782 and only 2 of his 6 minor league years he has shown any power. His minor league stats (at the same age) look pretty similar to Chris Giménez. Now I have hope he will have a better career, but...
  2. Can we be done with Colon now?
  3. I don't want to trade Buxton, but if it got us deGrom then we go get Cain this offseason. Then deGrom, Berrios, Santana, Mejia, and a combo of Gibson/May/Gonzo/Romero. Dozier, Mauer, Cain, Sano, Kepler, Grossman, Rosario, Castro, Gordon/Polanco/Escobar/Adrianza doesn't look so bad. Plus 6-8 new bullpen arms
  4. One isn't considered a top of the rotation guy and the other is a 5 inning pitcher in AA. I wouldn't say they are all that close, but that is just me.
  5. If you are thinking of trading Buxton, why sell short on Gray, why not call the mets on one of their pitchers?
  6. If you don't think he will be good next year, you should trade him for anything (anything that isn't close to being on the 40 man) and use the money for a FA after the season. Now I don't think he will be great, but I wouldn't expect too much different than the last 10 years. Around 11 wins and an ERA around 4. As of right now, I think Berrios is the only other starting pitcher we have in our whole system that has those expectations. Maybe Mejia and as much as I hate to say it possibly Gibson.
  7. Trading Santana & Dozier for prospects that at very least can't help next year, makes the team worse in 2018 than this year, or the team over performs and we are a buyer and then have to trade prospects back to fill the needs we just traded. IMO - I see Gordon, Gonzo and Romero being in the majors at some point next year, but only helping about as much as Buxton and Berrios helped last year. Which is to say not very much.
  8. Are we really surprised that Gibson dominated at AAA, he has been pretty much league average or better for the last two months. And after Colon's next start (which will be short again) they are going to have to call Gibson back up. Like I have said many times before I am not a huge fan of Gibson but right now he is the third or fourth best starter the Twins have in their system.
  9. There may be some pieces in the minors that close to really helping (Garver and maybe a RP or two) but the starting pitchers and hitters seem to be two years out before really helping and being good. IMO
  10. I agree with what you are saying, but this time seems different since we are almost half way though the cheap years of our young players
  11. Am I correct in saying that Buxton, Sano and Rosario will be free agents in 2021 and Kepler 2022?
  12. So basically a complete rebuild for 2019 then?
  13. Dozier after hitting 40 homers couldn't return a near ready starter, why would he now?
  14. I can't see how trading Dozier or Santana, make us better in 2018. Kintzler maybe? Trading Dozier weakens offensive, since we have nobody ready to replace him there. Trading Santana weakens the starting pitchers.
  15. Don't understand why Colon is still on the team. Upside side on him is 5 or 6 innings with a few runs at the absolute best. Colon has pitched more than 5 innings in 3 of his 15 starts this year. (and they all were in April) Gibson has pitched more than 5 innings in 9 of 18 and all since May 28th (9 out of 11) He is exactly what you would expect out of a number 5 starter. Pitch decent get though 5 anything more is gravy and throw in a few clunkers. Gibson in his last 10 games has average a hair under 6 innings, and Molitor has pulled him at the first sign of trouble. Would I like an upgrade over him? absolutely! Is Colon that guy?, I bet not.
  16. I agree that other teams would be most interested in those two (I think they believe Kepler cost would be too high) and they think Polanco at best is a utility infielder. Maybe the Twins could sell some team on Dozier being a DH/2B but not sure what that would get us in return. And for me we would need a ton in return for Dozier because moving him pretty much means we have 4 holes in our batting lineup, unless of course Buxton comes back on a ball of fire.
  17. You should find a desk with a crystal ball, we all want to know
  18. Agreed I meant for the year not this game. I just don't see how you can have Polanco in the lineup when Granite is playing. IMO
  19. No one else commented on him, but I love the idea of getting Raisel Iglesias, he can step in this year as 8th inning type guy, and next year compete to be the closer if we resign Kintztler or if his arm problems are a thing of the past we could offer him the change to move back to starting. This is the type of guy we should be looking at. (he would probably cost a lot, not sure we have enough, would Blakenhorn, Jorge and relief pitcher get it done?
  20. I agree with your take, but it seems with the base loaded and no outs, at least a double play scores a run, and with how horrible the twins have been with the bases loaded (might not actually be true but does seem true of late) they could use a run. They had the bases loaded with no outs, K, botched double play, K, K. 1 run! That is the kind of thing that happens when you get little to no offensive from you Catcher, SS and centerfielder.
  21. I think the cost for a SS hitting .319 with a OPS of .970 is going to cost us some pretty good prospects.
  22. What are we hoping to get in return for Polanco?
  23. I am not saying we should trade for him, but we could only hope that one of our top 3 pitching prospects turn out to have his career. Sometimes I think we forget how often top prospects fail. See Matt Moore above and we don't have any prospect on his level. I am almost always going to take the guy that has a MLB track record over a prospect.
  24. For most of the year Buxton has been a fairly easy out. Below .200 BA, below .300 OBP, and 88K in 257 at. I personally would pencil him in CF for the next 2 years and not once think about trading him. Polanco and Castro are both hitting ~.220. So I think it is more than fair to say those 3 have been offensive liabilities and trading Dozier means there is a very good chance of our new 2B (or SS) will be about the same. I really hope Nick Gordon turns into a solid major leaguer, but being realistic it is barely better than 50/50.
