  1. Hey if baseball wants to continue to drive fans away, by all mean continue using the opener strategy. I can understand in the Twins and other terrible teams case of wanting to see what they have in young pitchers, but I am not sure this does that. I agree with Bill above, why limit it to one inning.
  2. Is it an awkward decisions for the Twins to start relief pitchers that can't get though the 1st without giving up runs, and still not have the "starter" make it past the 5th? Of all the things baseball has done, I hate this worse than anything else. If the Twins do this next year, I will not go to a game that isn't started by an actual starter.
  3. If Mauer comes back for one or two years, does it matter what he makes? Even if it is 15 million per, does that stop the Twins from saying anybody because of payroll size. I say No.
  4. agreed, I assumed that is how it would work. If not I no longer like the idea.
  5. Maybe that is Molitor's problem, not thinking outside of the box to win games. I mean his way hasn't gotten them to .500 this year and taken a toil on the bullpen.
  6. I agree with all that (except the starting in AAA), it is just hard to understand converting him to a pitcher and then letting him go before he has a real chance to take off. I also understand after the Twins didn't put him on the 40 he got to pick the best spot for him, and I give him all the credit for picking the Giants . Just another side effect of trying to compete for the division title this year and Sano, Buxton and others crapping the bed because if the Twins were still in the race we won't be talking about losing what looks like a pretty good pitcher.
  7. So are you saying that the Giants were able to take a bubble candidate from the Twins and within a year turn him into a viable major league starting pitcher and the Twins couldn't do that (yet) with their top prospects? The Giants must have seen something in him beyond numbers to stick him directly into AAA, because IMO the Twins would have sent him back to AA.
  8. What you say is true, the question is what did the Twins miss putting him behind them, because so far he has been way better than any of them.
  9. I really like this idea for this year, really have no interest in it next year unless it is only for the 4th and 5th starter. I wouldn't mind seeing 3 pitchers for 3 innings each as well to get these young guys innings. For example: Berrios Gibson Odorizzi/Santana Michael Pineda/Stephen Gonsalves/Fernando Romero Zack Littell/Kohl Stewart/Meija
  10. Has been been any studies about players that drop down that far in the rankings (without injuries) and still turn out? Again I like him and hope he ends up being an all star, but it seems worrisome that he probably will he will be moved down the Twins list by recently drafted player(s) and others that have been in the system.
  11. Is Gordon still a top 100 prospect and top 10 guy for the Twins starting next year? I still have high hopes for him, but it seems that maybe the Twins missed trading him at his peak value?
  12. Looks like the Twins are all in in Kimbrel next yer, they have plenty of money for it.
  13. IS there a worse year to have a ton a money to spend on free agents? (unless Manny or Bryce are an option) Plus the spots the Twins are the weakest at going into next year. (3B, SS, 2B) the best players available might be the ones they traded away? On top they have nobody at those 3 positions ready,
  14. Are we really talking or thinking Willians Astudillo has a future on the Twins? In the day and age of OBP the Twins are going to say hey lets give an roster spot to a 26 year old with a career MINOR league OBP of less than .300?
  15. He is right about lucky hits, as in it was lucky nobody got hurt in the outfield bleachers and they were only hits.
  16. IMO 2019 comes down to your top two and that is it. If Sano is close to all start level (2017 pre all star break) and Buxton is .80% of the second half of 2017) The rest will take care of it self. I can't see the FO going out and getting 2 startering pitchers or even one. They did that last year with Odorizzi/Lynn and Pineda. You would assume, Berrios, Gibson, Odorizzi, Pineda and Romero will be the projected starting five going into next year.
  17. And the Twins should have a crap ton of minor league guys to go out and get what they need next year.
  18. It's Wade, Rooker and Gordon, is there anybody else that I am missing?
  19. I understand, but imagine a team calling up 13 non pitching prospects in two years and most contributing, that would be amazing, and even more amazing would be watching it happen.
  20. Wow, I hope you are correct. But you listed a possible 13 players in AA or lower possibly helping the team in two years. That would possibly be the greatest minor league system every to do that.
  21. IMO if the Twins aren't considered a contender in 2019, then they won't be in 2020 and only maybe in in 2021, and if that is what the front office thinks, then they should try to trade EVERYBODY on the team. Including Berrios and Rosario because they will never return more than now.
  22. I don't disagree, if the next wave is 2020, the Twins are looking at 2021 at the earliest to be real good again, and I am not ready to wait that long. IMO they have to already be good when that wave comes up to keep the fan interest.
  23. 14th in innings pitched (AL) 16th in K's (AL) 25th in WHIP (AL)
  24. I wrote "I was really hoping the floor was going to be his brother and as of now he is not living up to that (for me)" The for me is the important part, I am not trying to sway anybody else, it is my opinion. Dee didn't play baseball until high school because he was wanted to be a basketball player. So taking that and that Dee was a 4th rounder and not the 5th overall pick, I don't think he living up to that, if you do that is great, I am not going to argue that. The definition of discouraged is having lost confidence or enthusiasm; disheartened. That is where I am right now.
  25. To Clarify I was hoping it wouldn't take 5+ Plus year in the minors to get where is brother was at age 26. Plus Dee had only played about 350 games in the minors by Nick's current age with better stats, compared to Nick's 535 games. Like I said above, I am hopeful he gets there (really, really hopeful), but a career minor league player with a .333 OBP and .390 SLG. usually doesn't turn into everyday player and quasi All Star.
